July 6, Monday We slept a little later than usual since we were going to visit the little chapel just down the block. This was built by the Sisters of Lorado, and when designed the architect forgot to figure in a set of stairs for getting up to the choir loft at the rear of the church. Oops. all the local carpenters told the nuns that any stairs they could build would take up much of the space on the first level. The story goes that the sisters prayed to St. Joseph, and soon an unknown old gentleman showed up, offered to build stairs. He had a few basic tools, and when he was done, having built everything by himself, there was a set of circular stairs, 33 steps, two 360's to the loft, and completely ... read more

Well, folks, we made it through Oklahoma with its horrible roads, and are in the panhandle of Texas, Shamrock to be precise. It's a long drive across OK, but the weather was fine and it got pretty warm this afternoon. Clouds are moving in, but I don't think rain is predicted as much as wind. It's supposed to get quite gusty tomorrow. We were a bit put out last night at the KOA in Alma, AR. They advertise free WIFI, but in fact only give you 30 minutes free, which isn't time to do much. That's the second KOA this month where we faced that situation. Grrr. So far all we've done is drive, not stopped to sightsee, we're just trying to get to New Mexico and then Arizona, where we'll spend more leisure time seeing ... read more

This section written Friday evening. Even though this won’t get posted until I make my way to Texas, I thought I’d share a little about Friday afternoon. I drove up towards the wind farm before lunch. Never found a road into the wind farm, but did spot a couple of the old water wind mills that contrasted nicely with the new power generating wind mills. When I came back in the refuge, I spotted a bison RIGHT BESIDE the road. It was very shortly after I entered the area where they roam. They have fences to keep them on the refuge and you cross over cattle grates in the road. I stood on the opposite side of the road from the bison and had fun trying to capture images of him. That was the only bison ... read more

I am home at last. On Saturday I was in 4 different airports and flew nearly 7000 miles, if not more. My family met me at the airport, and of course mom cried, but that was okay. I was shocked at how tall Leo had gotten. I swear I'm going to put a brick on his head! Faith is as beautiful as ever, and Daddy, well Daddy is the same old guy, which is nice. Already I am missing Rome. The dorm I am glad to get away from, but I don't know how to get over it. It feels like I have left a little bit of something truly special behind, which I have. I am glad to be back in Texas though. At campus I was surrounded by those who deffinately aren't the lovers ... read more

the days are ticking by, and i don't know if i can fit everything into the time i have left. this summer i was/am working for my dad painting the house and doing other manual labor around the house. yet, i don't know if i'll be able to finish. everytime i think i can see the end in sight, he adds another problem to fix, i.e. the big hole in the side of the wall (he created it, of course the wood was rotted out). i have stayed as busy as possible, well not much the past week or so. i'm trying to see everyone and do all of the things i need to do before leaving panhandle. this is the last time i'll ever live here again, so long (maybe i'm just a tad bit ... read more

One month left. Wow, that is scary. I’ve been to India, but everything was taken care of for me, well except for packing. This time, it’s all me. I’m not so sure being an adult is that much fun, but chalk this up to being another learning experience in college, a big one. I though living in a dorm was wild and adventurous, and for someone from a small town, it is. Now I’m living in a dorm again, but with a different swing to it, it happens to be in Italy. Specifically it is about 15 kilometers southeast of Rome on the outskirts of a little town called Albano. Albano is the location of the Pope’s summer palace. I think the school told us that they are on the edge of its property, maybe, maybe ... read more
