We left East Fork RV Park shortly after noon on Sunday. We didn't make it to mom's until about 3:30. We all get used to estimating how long it will take us to make a trip based on what it takes in our automobile. But that does not apply in a big old motorhome like this. Everything takes longer.
We stopped at a Loves or Flying "J" to buy fuel. We have a "Pilot" card that gives us $.08 a gal discount. But it kept getting declined. Come to find out they did not set up the pin number that Les told them, but one a digit off. Once we figured that out we'd killed half an hour or more, but I was able to get online and change the pin number, then Les was able to pay & get our discount. That $.08 amounts to quite a lot when you are buying in large quanties like we are with this motorhome.
Once we were back on the road we had a storage area (basement) door that came open more than once. It is difficult to find a place to pull over when you are trying to get out
of the Dallas area. Once we got that resolved we finally were able to make it to Mom's. As always, she was glad to see us.
She's really doing great. I went with her to therapy yesterday. She did everything that her physical therapist asked of her, plus some. When they ask her to do 10 reps, she'd do those plus a few more. She is quite determined to regain her strength. One problem she had to day was that she took a shower right before we were to leave and was already tired when we left. By the time she'd finished therapy, she was really exhausted. But I'm really proud of the progress she has made. As my sister told me a week or two ago, she's definitely back to her sassy self.
My cousin has been here for a couple of months, doing some work for my sister (remodeling on her son's house). He needed to get back to the coast (they had gone & picked him up before Mom's heartattach, so they had to drive him home. I am going to stay with Mom, while Vickie goes with her husband to take Paul home.
Thurday Les is going to Ft Worth to pick up his parents. They are going to come back to Mom's and spend the night, then leave Friday for Kansas for the Hudson family reunion & a memorial service for Les' uncle Wilber. I had planned to go with them, but will have to stay here with Mom instead this year. I'm glad to do something to give Vickie a break.
Her husband had one surgery the day of Mom's heart attack and another the next day, the same day as Mom's bypass surgery. So, Vickie has been working, taking care of Mike, Mom & Aunt Barbara, plus helping Paul (our cousin) on Aaron's house. She's working nights, but can't sleep well during the day, so she's going on very little sleep and adrenaline.
Today I took Mom to a doctor's appointment so that Vickie could try to sleep. She's working tonight, then they will leave tomorrow shortly after she gets home. I hope she will sleep some in the car.
We have got to show our new motorhome off to all of our family here. It's been fun for us. We love showing it off.
One of the pictures attached is my Aunt Barbara while we were touring. She liked it because she is very cold natured and we didn't have any A/C on in here, so it was warmer than the house. Mom hasn't been able to actually come up the 8 steps that it takes to get fully in because her legs just aren't that strong yet. But I made a bunch of pics for her. Tomorrow I told her I'd do a video.
The second pic attached is our Mom's porch swing. The top of it was torn up, so Paul fashioned a new top for it and also reinforced the seat area. This thing will last longer than Mom & Aunt Barbara does now, most likely. Paul can fix anything! He does carpentry work, beautiful tile work, does roofing, flooring and most anything else a person can think of. He's pretty handy to have around and an all around great person too. He is sooo sweet to his mom & to mine.
Well, it's midnight & I've got to get up to see our travelers off tomorrow morning. So, I'll close for tonight. More in a few days.
