March 18, Wednesday Got the bike packed up and we took our leave from Steve and Helen about 11:30. We rode into San Antonio in search of the Cycle Gear store. We both purchased mesh jackets, as the temps are climbing quickly, then hit the post office and mailed home our heavy weight jackets along with some more clothes and a blanket. We are gradually paring down to bare minimums, which really is no hardship. We are finding that we need much less then we originally thought, something that probably would be good to learn even if we weren't on a motorcycle trip. Next we headed to Boerne TX (pronounced like Bernie) and the Alamo BMW where I got the oil changed. If I'd have been thinking, I'd have asked Steve if he could help me ... read more

March 16, Monday We began our packing, but I wanted to get the registration out from under the rider's seat. The rear seat came off fine with my secret cable system, but the front seat would not budge. Argh. I eventually had to unload the side boxes, remove them from the bike, and then continue to remove the luggage rack/frame and the rear underseat shelf until I could get into the area where the seat mechanism sits. I popped the appropriate levers, and finally discovered that a cable from the intercom to the FRS or CB radio - which I don't even have with me on this trip - had lodged under the release lever. After re-routing that cable, removing the secret cable release system, and replacing everything, we packed up again and got on the ... read more

I'm sitting here in Streatham Hill, London, England, a few thousand miles from Yeehaw Junction, Florida, Cut and Shoot, Texas and even further from Truth and Consequences, New Mexico. I've come to realise that i've a bubbling sense of nervous anticipation, butterflies almost, about the upcoming US elections. Why? Well there's an African-American man within a hop, skip and a jump, not of an Olympic medal, but of the Oval office. What the fuck. Has America (fuck you) lost its mind? In a good way of course. Maybe it's as Chris Rock said when asked if America was ready for an African-American president "It's ready for a retarded president, why wouldn't it be ready for an African American president?" Have the small minded folk that form the stereotypical majority of the You Ass Ay, really seen ... read more

Wed. Mar. 14th: Today we were in Fredericksburg and went to the National Museum of the Pacific War. Their website is www.nimitz-museum.org. The whole complex covers almost 9 acres! We took out time reading and viewing everything in the beginning of the Pacific War Museum. We continued to progress through it and there continued to be more around the next corner. Eventually I needed to use the restroom and walked through the whole museum to get to the lobby where they are located. It was at that point I realized exactly how much more we had to view. After that we were a little less thorough in our viewing, so we could get through the whole museum before we either became overwhelmed or closing time arrived. Associated with the museum are the Garden of Peace, The ... read more

Luckenbach Texas, where everybody is somebody.... Took an early morning bus tour of the LBJ Ranch, on the Perdanales River, just west of Johnson City. We are liking the Texas hill country more and more: rolling grasy meadows with big live oaks and colorful wildflowers everywhere. We spent the afternoon under a tree catching up on paperwork and doing a few minor repairs.Toward evening we drove to Luckenbach, TX. A "town" that was once for sale,"lock, stock and dancehall," it has become a country legend and a "Texas state of mind."While it has become a tour bus stop, and not a place where Willie or Waylon might just show up to play, the beer is just $1.50 during happy hour, and talented pickers and singers come every night to sit under the 500-year-old live oaks to ... read more
