March 18, Wednesday

Got the bike packed up and we took our leave from Steve and Helen about 11:30. We rode into San Antonio in search of the Cycle Gear store. We both purchased mesh jackets, as the temps are climbing quickly, then hit the post office and mailed home our heavy weight jackets along with some more clothes and a blanket. We are gradually paring down to bare minimums, which really is no hardship. We are finding that we need much less then we originally thought, something that probably would be good to learn even if we weren't on a motorcycle trip. Next we headed to Boerne TX (pronounced like Bernie) and the Alamo BMW where I got the oil changed. If I'd have been thinking, I'd have asked Steve if he could help me do that. I'm sure he probably had everything necessary, including a filter. Duh. Anyway, they got me right in and out in about 30 minutes so I was pretty happy. Tonight we are camping in Armadillo Farm Campground, right next to Luckenbach. We plan to spend a few days in this area, while we wait for an extra bike key to show up. I ordered a spare just in case it's needed while we're wandering Mexico

March 19 - 22 Thursday - Sunday

Spent these days resting and riding around the hill country exploring a few sights and sites. Lots of great farm and ranch roads, plenty of cattle guards to rumble over, and if there wasn't a drought on, we would have ridden through multiple water crossings. We also re-visited Luckenbach a few times to listen to whomever was making music at the time. We shopped Fredricksburg, and the Trade Days - a huge flea market type event. Sunday I went for a ride with the San Antonio BMW Club, again along many back roads, cattle guards and dry water crossings. We had breakfast in Kerrville, then rode back to Luckenbach.
