Lunch was goed !

Texas is nl de Lone Star State genaamd.

Liefs
Hubert, Willeke en Shasta

Living in Costa Rica means getting used to NOT having stuff. Okay, if you live in San Jose you’ll find some shopping malls. But that’s a five hour drive for us and no fun.

Clothes especially, are hard to find. Although you see some BIG Ticos on the street, l honestly have no idea where they buy their clothes. All the stores we see sell clothes for skinny people and l mean really skinny.

Hubert had some business to take care of in the USA. So we went to Humble Texas. It’s an easy flight from Liberia Costa Rica to Houston Texas. Just a little more than 3 hours, very comfortable.

Upon arrival a shuttle bus took us to the car rental place. We rented a nice, brand new Chevrolet Impala. It had only been driven for 523 miles. What a difference with our 14 year old Toyota RAV4.

The weather was nice and warm. A dry warmth, not so humid as at home, although it made you want to turn up the a/c. That is something we are not used to: a/c. It’s everywhere, in the car, the hotel room, all the stores we went into.

It was a short drive to our hotel. But what a drive ! There is the Highway (6 lanes) than there are side roads (4 lanes) on each side. That makes a total of 14 lanes next to each other. The side lanes however have loops too. You can go round and round and round, okay one more time, round. That way you’ll see all the signs of the stores and restaurants which are in the area. After which you hope and remember which lane to take in order to get to the store you want to visit.

We made it to our hotel after a few loops. The girl behind the front desk told us that Kohl’s had a special sale weekend, NO TAXES to be payed. Okay, so we arrived at the hotel around 5.00 pm, jumped back in the car with our luggage still in it, made a few loops and ended up in front of Kohl’s. It is very close to the hotel but you have to make a loop in order to get there…. Pfff Texas.

Believe it or not Humble is THE place to go if you want to go shopping. Just go to the Deerbrook Mall and you will find everything you need within 2 miles. Really, l am not kidding. You name it and it’s there. We even found a doggy day care.

Lunch was great ! We found a couple of Mexican food Restaurants in between the shopping malls. Pappasitos is the place to go. Real Mexican food, really delicious and we found them at Houston airport as well, just so you know.

So we got all our business done, did a lot of shopping and relaxed and watched tv in the evening. It was an amazing trip. We did not know what to expect in Humble but we found everything, and more.

The only thing however that is hard to find are houses ! We found out that there was actually a neighbourhood behind the hotel and drove around. It’s always fun to look at houses, they build very different here than in Costa Rica and Holland.

Another funny thing were the road signs. They were purple !!! and had a paw print on them. It appears that there is a baseball/football/something ball called the Humble Fighting Wildcats. And we thought it was a dog-loving city….bummer.

Bummer sounds like Hummer, we saw a couple of those driving around. Willeke still wants to drive in one onetime, onetime only ! The Chevrolet Tahoe’s had to be on sale a year ago because they were everywhere. You could not turn your head and not see a Tahoe, really. With the lone star sign on them off course.
Texas is called the lone star state, that’s why.

On our flight back we found that the plane was half empty and we had plenty of space. The plane also left sooner because the boarding went faster. That was nice, food and drinks came faster than normal too, also nice.

The Hilton shuttle took us back to the Hilton Hotel, close to the airport in Costa Rica. We parked our small RAV4 there and found it the same as we left it.

Time to go home and see Shasta again.

So, while in the USA, surrounded by Taco Bell, Burger King, MacDonald, TGI Friday, Jack in the box etc we ate Mexican food. Guess what we ate on our way back home ?
Right, we ate at Burger King in Nicoya !

All y’all have a good time now and enjoy the pictures of Humble Texas.

Love
Hubert, Willeke and Shasta
