4th – 6th Mark and Keith came down to New Orleans to pick us up in Mark’s plane. At their suggestion. It sure beats a 10.5hr bus trip up and turned out to be an amazing flight. The scenery was just stunning. We started at an altitude of 6500ft and it was smooth flying, but the wind was against us and we were going slow, so Mark brought us down to 4500ft. Here we were going much faster, but it was a bit bumpy. Nothing major but after an hour or so Mark got sick of it and we went back up to 6500. Did I mention the scenery was amazing?? Loved it!! On approach, we flew over Keith and Teresa’s house..right on the edge of the lake. Hope and the kids were watching and saw ... read more

(Brookhaven Retreat Center) I know it’s been a long time since I’ve blogged, and it’s been a very emotional time. Our dear friend Henry Norment (his wife is Annie…Henry & Annie...those names sound familiar because we’ve worked with them the past two springs) passed away suddenly at the beginning of this week. They were on project in Georgia when Henry had a brain aneurysm, which took his life. It has just stopped us in our tracks, and served as a reminder that we don’t have any idea how much longer we have with someone. Even as our hearts go out to Annie, she continues to minister to us through her emails. Along with that, we’ve been on two tours with missionary callings, and that’s been sobering in all that needs to be done in the world. ... read more

(Brookhaven Retreat) We’re in Hawkins, TX, this month~~about 100 miles east of Dallas. We are in the hill country now, even more than we were last month. Brookhaven is a camp situated on a privately own lake (Brooks Lake); the camp has one side of the lake, and private homeowners own the rest. It’s a smallish lake (oh come on, I don’t know how big!) with no power boats or anything like that allowed on it. Mostly it has men fishing on it. The camp doesn’t use it for swimming or boating any more, as it caused disagreements between them and the homeowners, but we’ve been cleared to canoe on it if we want. The camp has a large swimming pool, and a private lake. I’ll have pictures of that later. We have three on ... read more

On to East Texas we still see plenty of Trees but now we can get an occasional view of the countryside. Our destination is Hawkins Texas where Bob and Gipsy Schneider live. Bob is a former University of Kansas football teammate and KU swimmer. He is many other things too. He is a marine Vietnam Veteran, pilot, major airline pilot, and flyer of vintage aircraft that has landed him roles in movies like Ba Ba Blacksheep. He has flown every aircraft that I know except helicopters. Probably has flown them too, I just don’t know about everything in his life. He started Kansas’s best Air museum in Topeka Kansas and supplied the Avenger aircraft to the George Bush Presidential Library. If you ever get a chance to visit President George Bush’s Library in College Station ... read more
