Every Wed evening at 5:30 a sailboat race starts down at the yacht harbor. It's fun to be so close to the start/finish line and watch the sailboats jocky for position. The race ends well after dark.

Museum of Science and History 2

This is a great museum to visit with lots of interesting things to see. Kids will especially like this walk-on life-like old ship from a long time ago.

The museum also has the real-like perfect replicas of the Santa Maria and the Pinta (the Nina is in the water down at the harbor). These ships are be renovated and restored. They had been made in Spain and then sailed over here for the 500 anniversary of Columbus's sailing of 1492.

This 8 ft exact replica of the La Belle is located in the Maritime museum. La Salle, the French explorer, sailed the La Belle here while exploring for France, but got the boat stuck and had to leave it. Artifacts of the ship are here and at the CC museum.

Destroyed twice by hurricanes, now half as long (1/4 mile) and made of concrete. Good fishing out on the end.....they say.

We couldn't leave the area w/o going up to San Antonio to see the Alamo. So much history here. This was a must-see for me, a Davy Crockett fan from many years ago.

Across the street from the Alamo is the Riverwalk....a great place to stroll, cool down, get something to eat, or take a boat ride.
