Hello All! I know this post is long overdue but I wanted to throw out a quick post letting all know that we have returned safely to the states and have tried to adapt to not being on an African adventure. After getting back last Tuesday (May 21st), Josh and I both spent two days in Houston and Bryan respectively and then Josh flew to Kansas City for the weekend and I to Denver. I'll blame that for the tardiness of this post :) In conclusion, our trip was a once in a lifetime adventure and we thank you all for sharing in our experiences and stories! We are thankful for our opportunities look forward to the next one. Stay tuned! God Bless! Brady and Josh... read more

May 09 Monday Making the final preparations on departing. The Irish have an expression "Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, and Wednesday is the best day of all". Since health is the most important I try to always leave on a Monday for health but seem to be leaving on a Tuesday so I guess it's for wealth. I assiduously avoid leaving later in the week as the saying goes on to say "Thursday for losses, and Friday for Crosses, and Saturday is no day at all". My mother is from Ballinasloe about 30 miles from Galway in Ireland. She went to England during the war to serve as a nurse and so that is where she met my father who was in the American Army Air Corps. So most of the expressions and beliefs I ... read more

May 05, 2011 On March 28 I returned to Texas to regroup and refit after a six week trip in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California ,Utah and Colorado. I drove over 6000 miles on different kinds of terrain. It was a learning experience for me both in discovery and cost. Whereas I had expected the biggest cost of the trip to be hotels it was in fact Gas. I got hammered pretty hard on fuel cost and so the thing I have learned from that experience is on future trips to spend more time in a good location and so spread out the fuel cost some. This would give me more "bang for the buck" so to speak as more times in a good location allows me to savor the local area some. I am somewhat ... read more

February 07, 2011 Kind of wound up this morning. Have been staying with my sister in Bryan and feel like I am getting too comfortable here. Need to get moving again before I start thinking about staying for the winter. Of course I wouldn't impose on my sister for that long but move back to my RV in Harmony if I stayed. Or move my RV to a park in Bryan. But I need to get moving again so today I am going to load up and head over to Harmony. I will spend a couple of days there in final preperations and then head south by southwest to Goliad, Palacio, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, North Padre Island and Corpus Christi. Then West. My stupid truck has started leaking oil at the oil filter again so ... read more

Feb 5 Bryan After visiting my sister in San Antonio had intended to go to Corpus Christi for a week or so but one of those famous (or infamous) Texas northerns blew in and it got seriously cold. Since most of the things I wanted to do and see in Corpus involved being outside I decided to go hole up at my sisters house in Bryan and regroup and refit for my next excursion. So I am using the opportunity to look again at everything I am carrying in my truck and see what I can leave behind and what I need to make sure to take on my next trip. In Bryan we got one of the most dangerous kinds of storms. First we got a drizzling rain which froze up as a coat of ... read more

January 06-07 Bryan On the 6th took my truck by to get checked out at local mechanic. I had been told by a shop in Georgetown that I needed to replace the idler arm and pitman arm. At a cost of $450. So wanted a second opinion. This mechanic said that my idler arm and pitman arm were fine but my steering box was leaking oil and should be replaced. I asked him how long it would last if I just refilled it when it was low. He said no telling how long, but could last for years. So guess I will just keep checking the fluid on it for now. It only needs to last till next summer anyway when I will be going to Europe. I have been smelling a "leaking radiator" smell for ... read more

December 9 Bryan Was in Bryan and my brother had something he needed to get at one of my sister's house. So we went to see her and visit. I gave her a cap and the retirement watch I had gotten at work for her husband. I already have 3 watches and certainly don't need any more. She made up a pot of coffee and we sat at the kitchen table and had an enjoyable time visiting. She had her tree up and it looked quite nice. I told her that Mom had told me they always had a goose in Ireland for Christmas dinner and asked her if I got a goose would she cook it for us. She said she is cooking a turkey for Christmas but would also cook a goose if I ... read more
