One of the greatest experiences in the history of college football is the Cotton Bowl, and now I can say I've seen it live. I started my master's degree in Science Education at Western Michigan University back in September. I had no idea that they would do as well as they did; few people outside the program itself probably had any inclination that the team would go undefeated in the regular season, win their conference championship, and then play in the Cotton Bowl. That was a pipe dream, but it was as good as anyone could hope for. And now, here we are on January 2, 2017, and the WMU Broncos did all of those things. Last year was the first bowl game win ever for the program, and this year they break through and go ... read more

The second ballpark in my ~56 hour Texas trip (thank you ridiculously cheap airfare!). Ballpark: Rangers Ballpark in Arlington Team: Texas Rangers Date: June 16, 2013 Score: Blue Jays 7, Rangers 2 The Good: Beautiful ballpark. This stadium had always been on the top of my list of places to visit as it's architecture just reminds me of the ballparks of the early 1900's. The BBQ option in the CF concourse was nice (near the statue). The museum with all the Ranger plaques was a nice touch. All in all, just a really well designed stadium in every way. The Bad: OK the area the ballpark is in....well it sucks. It's a long drive from either Dallas or Fort Worth, and Arlington itself has almost zero redeeming qualities from what I could tell. I had to ... read more

Geo: 32.7356, -97.1077We had breakfast in the hotel again, checked out and left for the stadium tour about 9:30. The self-guided tour started at 10:00. I purchased tickets online so we wouldn't have to do that when we arrived, but the line for tickets did not look very long. There was a mass of people standing outside the stadium. I guess they were groups assembling or waiting for their entry times. We went on inside and were led upstairs to the entry for the self-guided tours right away. We waited only a few minutes before we could go in and look around. The tour we had allowed us to spend as much time as we wanted on the field, in the Cowboys and the Cheerleaders locker rooms, in the Miller Light Club and in the press room. ... read more

Geo: 32.7356, -97.1077We had a full day of Cowboys fun today. After a good, hot breakfast at the hotel, we had only a short wait to go to the first event--a tailgate party with Dallas Cowboys legends signing autographs. We left the hotel to drive the 1.5 miles to the parking space I had booked and paid for in advance. The stadium had no parking left when I bought the tickets, but I booked a space through ParkWhiz.com at the TailGate Tavern. It's just north of the stadium and about a half mile from the Eddie Deen Crossroad Smokehouse restaurant where we went to the tailgate party. They allowed parking as early as six hours before the game and four hours after the game so I knew that would be plenty for us. Once we were ... read more

Geo: 32.7356, -97.1077Today, we planned to drive around to places that Philip and I remembered and to show them to Erin. First, we drove by the house where Jane was living when Philip was born. We had never seen it before. It is right by White Rock Lake and about three miles from the next stop on our tour--the house where he grew up. Erin had never seen it before since his parents moved from there before she was born. We drove by the church where we got married and the Boy Scout hut that Philip went to. We saw Bryan Adams High School next and just drove around in the area for a while so Philip could see and point out other places he remembered. We must have passed right by one of the first ... read more

May 4th, 2013 I marked something off my bucket list today. This was the 27th year for the Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games in Arlington. I have always wanted to go but every year something would come up and I wasn't able too. This year I was able to go with my best friend, Leigh Ann. We had a great time even though I did get more than I bargained for in the Bonniest Knees contest. I said I would be a judge when they were asking for female judges. I thought the guys would just lift their kilts and we would judge who had the best knees. Oh No that is not the way the contest worked. The judges were blinded folded and the guys wearing kilts would stand in front of you and ... read more

Good Evening from the Great State of New Mexico!!! If you could drive it, it was on the road: cars, trucks, semis, minivans (my future vehicle), Winnebagos (our future road traveler), bike racks, trailers, classics, Uhauls, and I think I saw a tour bus. We left this morning around 5:00am, it wasn't as bad as I thought. the alarm went off and we put our feet on the ground. We stopped a few times, of course, and made it here at 2:30pm(MDT). Santa Fe is a nice town full of look-alike adobe buildings. You can't tell the difference between a house, church, museum, or Albertsons. Very interesting.... We rode around for a little while, but then came back to the hotel to rest (a Super 8, free wi-fi and breakfast!!!). Well, watch black exploitation get honored, ... read more

We can't believe tomorrow is in the morning!!! We have made a million Walmart trips to buy and return (we all know the quality of some of their products), have matched up our outfits, called the family in California, put together a playlist, cleaned the house, gave the key to some responsible family of ours who will water our dying plants, and now it's time to hit the pillow. However, I can't say we are that sleepy. It's like Dad said earlier..we might as well just leave tonight because we aren't going to sleep. Well I hope that is not true because we plan to leave at 4:00am and we are both people who need our sleep. Our car is road trip ready with snacks, a spare tire (new Kias only come with fix-a-flat), a jack, ... read more

We also had another soul saved today. Justin Mitchell had this one. I am so glad that we were able to come on back to the church tonight. Today has been an emotional roller coaster for most of us all today. The day started out VERY early for West and myself. We got up at 330 this am so that I could carry him to the airport. WE DID NOT GET LOST!!! So rest peaceful tonight West Garner is back in Covington County!!!! Sorry West. I got back to the church with still enough time to get 55 minutes more of sleep before going to start our day. We got everyone up and ready to go. We headed out to go to morning worship and while traveling down the road Holt yells out “THE MUFFLER IS ... read more
