Today was another beautiful day in Memphis. We got up early (5:30am) and had a nice breakfast.....then went to the 9th floor terrace at our hotel to look at the Mississippi River and enjoy the morning. We then drove to see Sun Studios....we didn't go on the tour although wanted to see this building anyway. The parking lot wasn't open yet as it was too early (9:00am). We then drove to the National Civil Rights Museum which is located at what used to be the Loraine Motel. This is the site of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination which took place on the hotel balcony on April 4th, 1968. The museum was wonderfully done and very informative. The room where Dr. King stayed is made up just as he left it and there is a wreath marking ... read more

Today was a beautiful day in Memphis.....high 80's with clear, sunny skies. Our plan today was to see Graceland in the morning and then spend the afternoon on Beale Street. With only 1 slight navigational error....we were completely successful. GRACELAND Kim and I enjoyed our visit to Graceland. We arrived early in the morning and we were among the only people in the whole place. We especially liked the house tour because everyone gets their own audio player with a headset so you can control the pace of the tour. You can pretty much wander around the house. We were allowed to take unlimited photos all throughout the house. Kim and I both remarked how 'small' everything seemed....the rooms in the house were of normal proportions and not what we expected.....I guess we imagined a big ... read more

Well, Kim and I made it safe and sound to Memphis, TN. We left this morning about 3:45am and arrived in Memphis around 2:00pm. We are pretty exhausted and won't begin any heavy sight seeing until tomorrow. We are planning on seeing Graceland and Beale Street! The drive from Fort Wayne to Memphis is about 600 miles and wasn't too bad. The states we visited today were: 1. Indiana (DOH!) 2. Illinois 3. Missouri 4. Arkansas 5. Tennessee The Illinois state police were out in force today....in a space of about 45 minutes we saw 4 state troopers and they were pulling people over for speeding left and right. Yikes! Here is the view from our 14th floor room....the Mississippi River and the Mud Island tramway....this was featured in the movie "The Firm" with Tom Cruise ... read more

We arrived on a 10 and a half hour overnight train (it was very cold!) in Memphis, collected our car, White Dodge Neon. Then we drove 367miles to a little place many of you will know called Lynchburg, this took us 5 and a half hours through hot, slightly lost and very winding lanes. We arrived at a lovely, quaint B&B, see photos. The following day we visited the Jack Daniel's distillery, the drive was worth the lovely smells alone! The tour was reallly interesting, although Guy would have prefered it if we could have done a little sipping, Lynchburg is in a completely dry county, hard to believe. Then we went for a walk through the Tennessee woodlands. The next day we got up early and drove to Nashville for a walk around and to ... read more

This is just a quick post to share my excitement of the past few days! The BIG news is that I just bought my first car!!!(well besides Happy the VW rabbit I shared with Juan! Oh, Happy, where are you?) It is a 2000 VW Beetle (yes that is a picture of her). She does not yet have a name, but she is divine! She is a 5-speed bubble. That is how it feels inside. Tall people don't be afraid to come visit me, because there is plenty of room (Daren fits better in my car than most he rides in!) In other news, Daren finally found his dream job (we hope) so it looks like we will be here in Tennessee for awhile. Family and Friends - that means you have to come visit! Honestly, ... read more

So I'm leaving today...FOUR DAYS LATE! haha! Well at least I am still going. Everyone is working with me so that I am not overwhelmed with make-up work when I get there. My plane takes off at 2:19 this afternoon, and I will be in Frankfurt tomorrow at 10:30 in the morning. Anyway, leaving is bittersweet. I am so excited to be going to Germany and France, but I am so upset about leaving everyone, especially Stevo. He's the one taking me to the airport, so that should be interesting. I am going to try not to cry while there b/c I have cried about it enough. haha! I'm NERVOUS! I wonder if how many people read this thing? Is there a way to see that? I'm taking a pimp camera with me, so I'll try ... read more

After leaving Natchez Trace, we drove eastward to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. En route was a 1-hour bumper-to-bumper delay due to 2 overturned trucks, one in the median, one on the shoulder. We had lunch while waiting for the traffic to clear and listened to the funny CB chatter. Stayed in an RV park in Sevierville, TN. Had to drive through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, quite "kitchsy," all sorts of country music jamborees, dinner shows, amusement parks, even a Louise Mandrell theater. The Great Smokys, however, were just gorgeous. Waterfalls, mountain streams, and trees, trees, trees. Nice and cool in the mountains. We saw our first bear on a short hike to Grotto Falls just off the trail about 50 feet or so. He was a little guy, foraging all by himself, or so ... read more

Did you know that even if it's HOT outside and you get stuck in a rainstorm without an umbrella you could still catch a cold? I didn't. I figured it would be refreshing....a break from the heat....nice and cool. It was cool al' right...it was downright COLD! My throat is scratchy. April's throat is scratchy and I have been cold since 9:30pm yesterday evening! :( However, in some weird sort of way I feel kinda connected to Alison Krauss who had to cancel her appearance at The Grand Ole Opry and several concert dates due to "losing her voice/being sick" from this week's Bonaroo Festival just outside of Nashville (more on that later). I am a huge Alison Krauss fan so for some reason being sick from yesterday's rainstorm is somewhat OK..lol. I will get more ... read more

Left Hot Springs and drove into Tennessee through Memphis. With Tropical Storm Arlene causing some concern, decided to spend 2 nights at a great state park near Lexington. Friday evening and Saturday were overcast, it rained overnight on Saturday, and Sunday was just a misty drizzle as we left for Eastern Tennessee. Found a yummy BBQ joint with great ribs, and of course another great pawn shop sign. ... read more
