We dropped Karlie off at Barker Lounge at 9am and headed to Dollywood. It opened at 10am and we got there and parked in plenty of time. It is a very organized place, much like Disneyland, so things go very smoothly. It is located in a very wooded setting, in fact you wouldn't even know it was there if it weren't for the signs. They give you a schedule of all the shows with the times and theaters that they are in. We got a coffee and cinnamon roll and developed a plan of attack for the day. We fit in five shows between 10:30 and 5pm. It started with a Gospel group, the Kingdom Heirs. They were amazing and it was a great way to start the day. We ended the day with Dreamland Drive-in ... read more

Well after more than 6 weeks and nearly a mile of miles, Chessy and I are almost home. I’m here in Sevierville, TN where Jeff and Toni met me Friday night. We had a fun day kicking around the outlet malls and will head home Sunday. A quick check of my trip notes told me I’ve driven 5165 miles on this journey and it’s 106 miles to Asheville! Sorry I couldn’t resist a line from the Blues Brothers movie. It’s been a fun week on the road from Bosque to Tennessee. I spent four nights in Grapevine, Texas visiting friends. It was a huge transition to be in a big city after spending a lot of time in rural areas near National Parks and wildlife refuges. The night sky with all the city lights was a ... read more

We got up early and loaded up the van in order to get back on the road. We had a long drive ahead - 600 miles or so - to Hot Springs, Arkansas. As we'd already done a lot of the drive, we made great progress. We arrived in Hot Springs about 6:00 p.m. We checked into the famous Park Hotel and decided to take a walk around the town. Hot Springs National Park is the only national park that is completely within city limits. We had a nice walk through the promenade and then walked by all of the old bath houses. We headed back to the hotel restaurant and had a great Italian dinner. We sent the kids up to the room and Gabe and I had a beer at the bar. We were ... read more

We woke up to pretty heavy rain. We Californian's were pretty pleased to see it for once. We spent a short time wandering around the grounds - the kids fed the catfish and played with the dogs - before the yummy pancake breakfast Alynne made for us all. After breakfast, we all piled back into the car and headed to North Carolina to Gabe's sister, Joanne (and Tom's) house in Asheville. Once we got there, Gabe and Rece had a chance to catch up with family. Mary, Danny's partner, brought their young kids (Ely and Lilly) over and they kept everyone entertained. Joanne and Gabe had some time to talk. Charlotte made Gabe a birthday cake from scratch and Sam got to compare notes with Savannah, Joanne and Tom's older daughter. Savannah made a great chicken ... read more
