That's why they call them smokey mountains

We had a lovely drive home yesterday from Chattanooga. It was raining when we got up; as it was 6 out of the 9 days we were travelling. The rain cleared as we left Chattanooga and the sun came out before we reached Nashville. The traffic was light, the truck had no problem pulling the camper up Monteagle, it was as uneventful a trip as we always hope. We saw new places and dear familiar faces and home looked good to us.

We stayed only in national, state and county campgrounds and saved accordingly, averaging less than $16 per night in campground fees. You have to love that National Park Senior pass with free park entry and half price camping. For a dry run, which this trip was, it was surprisingly damp. We had more rain than we’ve had on any other trip. We found that camping without hookups was no problem. We found that emptying holding tanks was not so bad. We discovered that we love having a big refrigerator, a self-lighting hot water heater, and our own indoor toilet. We employed our microwave when we had electrical hookups and did fine without it

when we didn’t. We can fit on a queen sized bed, even if I have to climb over Kerry to get to the bathroom. Inside space is a bit tighter than in our popup, but the pluses outweigh the minuses. We love the storage space and accessibility of said storage. Of course we stayed warmer on cool nights than in the popup, even without using a heater. Kerry did a great job maneuvering the camper into campsites and through city traffic, even though he was a bit nervous getting used to electric camper brakes. The total mileage driven was 940 miles.

All in all it was a great trip. Thanks for joining us.
