Staunton Virginia to Cookeville, Tennessee We rode early this morning to make the most of the coolest part of the day. A fairly transit type day really, arriving at Greeneville, Tennessee around 3.30pm. It didn't take long for the famous Southern Hospitality to appear; we stopped for gas and got talking with Ralph and Carol who offered us to come home to their place to stay. ... So we did! We followed them back to their home where Carol cooked us salmon, halibut, ocra, corn and pinto beans; all delicious. Ralph then took us out for a drive around the Mennonite community which was very opulent and well manicured. August 11th, 2013 9:15 pm Day 33 Today we had 298 miles to travel from Tupelo, MS. to. Cookeville, TN. We had 281 miles of the Natchez Trace to drive and Nashville, TN. to drive through, we left at 6:50 am and arrived at our motel in Cookeville, TN. at 4:00 pm. Drove through three States today MS., AL. and TN. Stopped at grave site of Meriwether Lewis, of Lewis and Clark fame, who died here in 1809. Passed over the 155 ft. high bridge which spans over Birdsong Hollow, this bridge was completed in 1994 and received the Presidential Award for Design Excellence in 1995.
