My husband was blown up in Iraq. He did two tours, in the infantry. Now he's medically retired, at the age of 33. The injury made him old before his time, back ache, bum knee, creepy ringing in his ears, the forgetfulness of an Alzheimer’s patient. Then, the PTSD, the anxiety, depression, mood swings, a drinking problem to rival a great American author’s. We’re lucky in a lot of ways. He came home. He’s not missing any pieces. Unless you count his humanity. I kid! Just saying, he’s not the same. No one should be, though, you know, after a war. ... read more

Today I sit at my parents house in Clarksville Tennessee with less than 20 days away for my flight to leave the sweet ground of Nashville. I am excited because I will be starting a new chapter in my life book. A chapter in which i hope the pages are filled with adventure, passion, excitement and happiness. This summer has been a hard yet still amazing experience for me. For the first time in more than 5 years i had the opportunity to move back with my parents and spend some quality time with them. I spent much of my time working on various projects around the house, from building fences, digging, cutting trees, to building things. This summer was difficult because Angela (my boo) has been in France this summer, and the time apart was ... read more

We stayed at Grand Island, NE. Sunday night and drove on to Columbia, MO. last night. We are heading to Chattanooga, TN. tomorrow night to stay with Mom and Dad for a night. My sister, Beth, is shopping for a new motorcycle and I am going with her tomorrow or Thursday to look at bikes. We plan to get home Thursday night. Donna and I miss the open spaces and big sky and feel cramped by the crowds, heavy traffic, and tall trees growing so close to the road. (Have I said that we will make this trip again?) Our trip is essentially over; the only thing left now is to get back home and unpack and clean our gear. Soon we will put our memories together and revise and publish this BLOG as a book. ... read more

Yesterday, I packed my school bag in a hurried fashion. Books? Check. Writing utensils? Check. Coat? No check. You see, I am notorious for rebelling against the coat until the weather becomes unbearably cold. As it turns out, in Clarksville, the first day of cold weather was unbearable. We jumped immediately from summer temperatures to winter temperatures. I hate it. The good thing about this town is that there are so many refreshing places to go when you simply want to escape the cold. A new local favorite of mine is The Lovin’ Spoonful Café on University Avenue. Their hummus with pita is amazing, as is their turkey sandwich with cranberry mayo (I know how weird it sounds, but trust me, you won’t be disappointed.) So, yesterday I stepped outside of the cold and in there ... read more

Are you looking for something to do this weekend in Clarksville? Well, at the surface level, this weekend doesn’t present as many opportunities as the last, but there is, in fact, just as much to do! It looks like we are finally getting the long anticipated crisp, cool, fall weather. There is no better way to enjoy this last bit of sun than lounging around in the great outdoors. We truly live in a beautiful state, and a gorgeous community at that. Last year, my husband and I took a five thousand mile road trip around America, and when we returned, we both agreed that there’s just no place like Tennessee. Picnicking at Dunbar Cave is a local favorite thing to do. If you have children, this could be one of the last times you can ... read more
