Steve at One Eye Jack
Day 4

Miles: 143

Well it is day 4 and Steve and I have not killed each other, actually we haven't argued much, SD must agree with us. We are having a great time, it is so beautiful here that every where you look is a view. What a great place to visit. Today we ate breakfast in our room because we had left over steak and fruit. If you remember from last night the food ordered from the hotel was not great but it is here and we were hungry.

We decided to take the North Hills roads today to head to Sturgis, the Holy Grail to Harley riders. We started up on Hwy 44 West and then turned right onto Nemo road which went into Vanocker Canyon. All I can say is OMG, for you non-texters, that is Oh My God!!! The beauty was incredible, the cliffs of granite against the hills and trees was so spectacular it was difficult to keep my eyes on the road. There were plenty of hills and curves to satisfy the rider in us and we could move a little faster than the Needles highway of yesterday.

We got

The Stugis sign in the hills like the a take off of the Hollywood sign
to Sturgis and went right to the Harley Shop and bought, can you guess, T-shirts. I also finally found, ta da, my motorcylce charm for Pandora bracelet. I have been looking for over a year so thank you Sturgis HD. The people were real nice and helpful there. We decided to walk down the main drag, which frankly without the rally looked a little sad. Most of the stores were closed and just getting ready for the rally. We did stop at One Eye Jacks to have a soda pop and the bartender there was really sweet. She shared that she had been doing Sturgis for 12 seasons. Let me tell if you I had known that I could make thousands of dollars when I was younger and more beautiful I would have headed there and waitressed.

Once we left Sturgis we headed west on 14a, unbelievable views again towards Deadwood. This is my kind of town, very quaint, with lots of things to do and lots of history. Stop at the renovated train station where the ladies there will give you a map and all sort of great advice. Kevin Costner has his casino there Midnight star. This

Why did Steve have me stand in front of this sign???
is where Wild Bill Hickok was killed which is re-entacted at the Saloon 10. We ate there but the service was incredibly slow and the food ok, I give the service 2 motorcycles and food a 3. Watch the show but eat somewhere else. We mosied on down the Main street and had some ice cream and watched a very funny, but not politically correct singer. We listened to him for about a half an hour and then left, I wish we got his name because not only was he funny but he had great songs. If we go back I will get his names. We decided to move along because there was thunder storms predicted for the later afternoon.

We continued our trip to Lead on 14 a and onto Spearfish. We stopped at a restaurant to use the bathroom and met two great guys from Missouri. Steve is not doing his part of the job which is getting the names of people we talk to. He is the social person between the two of us and since I do all the writing he is suppose to do the research, a person just can't good help anymore. Going to

Spearfish you go through Spearfish Canyon and again all I can say is OMG!!! There is a beautfiul small river that runs along the road and the scenery is more incredible around each bend, definitely take this route if you want to see true beauty!!!

We were both getting very worried because the clouds became dark and omnious and we had quite a distance to go before we got back to Rapid City. We connected with I-90 briefly to got to Hwy 85 south and went back through Deadwood and then took 385 south to to Hwy 44 E back to Rapid City. We ate in Rapid City at The Firehouse Brewery. Great place, it is an old Firehouse located on Main street with great food and friendly staff. Both service and food get 5 motorcyles. Steve argued with me about the road we needed to take back to the hotel and of course I won!! When will he ever learn??? We literally just beat the rain and storms when we got back to the room. We went to the hotel bar and had a drink and are now retiring for the evening as we watch the clouds roll

Great pictures
I love the pics you have on here, and sounds like you're having a great time. I am going to try to get to deadwood, I heard about Kevin Costner's place there, did you see the big statue there that he had made in tribute to the Indians?
