blog 08-26-17 Bison !

We woke to the fog shorouding the mountains and the air filled with mist that felt like droplets. So strange to see a desert climate in fog.

We walked the dogs, and packed the fence, chairs and rug, secured every

thing inside and proceeded to the dump area. I took some pictures while we waited our turn and Ginnie hooked up the car. I have not attempted to do the car yet, soon though.

We were on the road and opted to go to Rapid City by way of the back roads. It was a 2 lane 60 mph road that was just a delight to drive. I had been wanting to see Bison for 2 days but they eluded us until this stretch of road. We rounded a bend and there they were in all their glory. There must have been 200 in the herd and several bulls on the outside closer to the road. Being the tourists that we are I pulled off the road very carefully and we proceeded to snap away. We started a chain of cars stopping and everybody leaving with a smile.

It was not long before we were in Rapid City and before we found our campground there was a Walmart, how could we pass that up! Our shopping excusion was short and we found our campground and parked and hooked up in record time. We are getting good at this.

The laundry was right near our camper so we each did a load while there were afternoon rain showers. Done by 3:30 we opted to take a ride to Wind Cave for a tour and a stamp for our Nat'l Park books. It took much longer than predicted to get there so we missed the tour but enjoyed the animals along the way, the scenery and the all important stamp. We saw more prarie dogs and pronghorn antelope, Ginnie's first, then some bison. I brought my big lens along and took some pictures that I really like, especially the bison. Pictures

We didn't get home til after 7 and the poor dogs thought they would never eat again. After walks and food they were very happy and settled in for the night. Ginnie and I both had leftovers for dinner and shortly crashed.
