We woke up to a stormy looking sky...really scary looking to our west and south. We got cleaned up and then prepared Mufasa to leave camp before having breakfast. It actually was quite nice having breakfast in our little cocoon as we had the windows open and thus had a nice comfortable breeze coming through the RV. We pulled out of camp at 9:30 and headed north towards Sioux Falls. As we headed north, we realized that we were pulling away from the Lewis and Clark Trail as the Missouri River was now further to our west. Our big shock of the morning was the fact that the speed limit on South Dakota Interstates is 80 MPH!!! Wowzer for sure! Our drive this morning had some variations. We moved out of the Missouri River delta area ... read more

Wednesday, 23 August, 2017 We are so out of the habit of camping. Hooking up the camper, securing things inside, setting up camp; all had to be relearned. This trip we are heading north for starters. We crossed the Ohio River at Paducah and drove to Cahokia Indian mounds near East St. Louis, IL. Kerry was a bit disappointed, so we didn't stay long, continuing north up the Great River Road in western Illinois. The drive was peaceful and we got nice views of the Great Mississippi along the way. We camped overnight at Pere Marquette SP. Thursday, 24 August, 2017 We continued north along the Great River Road. We crossed the Illinois River at Hardie on a narrow green steel drawbridge. And, as narrow as the bridge is, one lane was closed for bridge work. ... read more

Chapter 2. I left off last night as I was falling asleep. Well, we had a restless night as temperature dropped to 58deg. and I had forgotten to turn on the heater, so awoke around 4 am to remedy. Mattress too hard etc., you don't want to hear complaints from anyone who's on adventure of a lifetime! Anyway, up at 6 a.m. to get ready for first trip in RV. We attended seminar put on by the able group from Great Alaskan Holiday to make sure we knew ins/outs and do's/don'ts of RV operation and 3FromNaples were on our way by 10:30am. Before we left we posed for group picture in front of one of our RVs that we're traveling in. On first highway out of Winnebago factory we got stuck behind some farm equipment which ... read more

Well we are here! Left Boston yesterday at 11:33 AM, and arrived in St Paul, Minnesota at 1:30 local time. Unfortunately, the bus that was bringing us to the Winnebago factory was not scheduled to leave until 5:00 so there was a long wait. After retrieving our bags, we realized that there was nowhere to eat except for a small food stand, and with all of our luggage in tow, taking a cab or even a bus to a restaurant was impossible. The drive to Forest City took about 2 hours, 15 mins, and when we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly and efficient team, and we were in our RV's in a matter of minutes. Needless to say our main focus was getting something to eat. We then proceeded to unpack, and fell ... read more
