Up early, breakfast - hotel continental - gross. Car snacks later. Northwest direction today. Finally get to I-90 and the signs for "See Wall Drug" etc. I had already decided to stop here when planning as it looks quirky and fun. But first a stop for a quick picnic lunch. This is one of my $$$ savers on the road. No one needs to eat out breakfast, lunch and dinner. South Dakota's rest area's at least the one we hit need some serious work. First thing we see are signs to watch for snakes. Then us ladies hit the restroom with lots of trepidation from the looks. Well we peed with bees. Lots of bees. Surprising neither of us got stung. Brings me to another road travel tip - put together a good first aid kit. Ours is a medium duffle bag size with a little bit for every scenario. We travel to some pretty remote corners so it's important. If you want to email me I can give you a list of things David includes. Even though the rest area was not what we have back home in Texas we made the best of it and had our
lunch then stretched a bit & hit the road west again. Next stop was the Minuteman Missile Visitor Center - in 2013 this was a literally a trailer next to a gas station. They had a small area to watch a film - we did - and few artifacts. Then you could make your same day only reservation to tour Delta 01 at a different local. Now they have a very nice building built. And you can make your reservation online well in advance. Delta 01 and Delta 09 are in separate but nearby locals. The tour does use the original elevator but you must be able to climb two separate 15 foot ladders in case the elevator goes down. Between the tight fit and mobility issues with Dad & I we decided to skip it. We did go down to Delta 09 a few miles down the road. It is literally down a dirt road in the middle of a field with a security fence. Here you could walk around & look at missile stuff and look down through a glass wall into the silo. This worked for us.

Wall. Pretty much Wall Drug is most of the downtown but there are a few other shops and a museum. Wall Drug got it's start in 1931 by a pharmacist named Ted Hustead but giving out free ice water to thirsty travelers from the highway. Now it's pretty huge and something for everyone. Stores, a cafe, a fun "backyard" with kids stuff, art gallery and of course a pharmacy. We walked it up and down checking it out and a bit of shopping. Then an ice cream break in order and some photos. Also popped into the Harley Shop across the way to get some t-shirts.
http://www.walldrug.com/Okay on to our hotel for the next two days. Cadillac Jacks Gaming Resort in Deadwood, SD. At the time they were a Choice Hotel but now are with Marriott. Check in no problem. Rooms ready to go with lots of friendly service. Dropped our stuff and went to find dinner. Deadwood roads are not exactly straight so took a minute or hour to get out bearings to go eat where I had planned. Creekside at Deadwood Gulch Casino. Played a little bit then went over for dinner. Ugh. The one big reason I wanted
to eat here was to eat on the deck - it was closed. Some line about it being close to closing time - an hour and a half away. Food was okay but slow with equally slow service. Back to the hotel and a bit more gambling before turning in.
