Fun in the pool, Nick!
I cannot tell you how many attempts it took to get this picture!!! He moves too quick! On Wednesday, July 9th we left my mom's house in Greenville. The boys' were sad to leave the pool and Devin was especially sad to leave the good food. We have managed to eat food packed by mom for the past 1.5 days so Devin has not had to go back to eating ham slices out of a plastic bag😊 We decided to go a bit north from Greenville yesterday and visit the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. This would have been a more adult visit since we were touring the estate that George Vanderbilt built in the late 1800's. It compared to palaces that I've visited in Europe. Enormous, spacious, sophisticated and gorgeous. Devin liked the visit and Nick was only excited about the cinnamon bun he bought at the bakery. It was a good stop and of course it took longer than we planned and we didn't hit the road until after 2pm....yikes. Our next destination was Dayton, TN where the Scopes trial took place in 1925. Chris and I wanted to visit it so that we could work on curriculum for the new course. Well there was no way we would make it before closing time so we
enjoyed the trip over the Appalachian mountains and plugged away. Why did I not realize how BIG our country is? Why did none of you speak up and tell me that?
To top it all off we did not have a place booked for Wednesday night....and all the research we had done did not matter because we hadn't visited Dayton yet. There was one campground in Dayton according to our monster Woodall Book so off we went. No one in there right mind would go to this campground. Off the beaten path? YES!!! Located on a river? YES! Smells like fish? Unfortunately. It was a low level campground I think Chris said the bathrooms were disgusting!!! The best thing about the campsite was our neighbor whose name was Homer Simpson. I am not kidding you!!! We never saw Homer but it did provide us with a good laugh.
This morning there was a little incident with the auxiliary air conditioner...it blew ice all over me. There were signs that something was wrong...vibrations, noises (really weird noises), etc. We can not afford to be without an air conditioner...88 degrees...yikes! We did not need it on our seven hour drive
so we gathered some information about possibilities. Humidity? Water hooked up? Did I mention that some of our cupboards had leakage on the inside making a mess.
We started our morning in Dayton, TN. I slipped my Evolution T-shirt on over my tank top for a few pictures. I think Chris was horrified and scared. I did remove the shirt as soon as the pictures were done, I am not completely crazy. We then visited the Scopes Trial in the Court House basement. It was not huge but it was interesting. We even got to visit the court room where it all went down. The old wooden seats, the new printer is visible. It is still used for court and today was no exception. We were out of place!!!! Dayton is a depressed area and there were some individuals that surely had a lot of character that were visiting w/ a judge today! As I stood in courtroom taking in the old wooden smell Chris informed me that people must wear pants in the courtroom. ALL of us were in shorts. Oops! Outside the large courtroom I read the other rules: no tank tops, no shorts and no flip
Mom, Danny and I!!
We had so much fun. Chuck the Chinchilla is doing great and Gizmo is getting into trouble as usual. flops...I was wearing all of the above. The only thing I wasn't wearing was a doo-rag. We decided to finish our visit and hit the road. To Memphis.....Check out a map...Dayton to Memphis!
We did stop in Nashville for a little lunch after selecting an eatery from our Road Food book. We found our way to Swett's. It was cafeteria style and seemed to be filled w/ locals. We were the only RV. I had turnip greens, fried chicken, mac and cheese and ice box lemon meringue pie...yummy!!! Devin loved the Pecan Pie!!! Chris filled up on country fried steak and other goodies. Nick? Well, Swett's wasn't really Nick's style. He patiently waited...picked at a piece of friend chicken and had a fruit punch! Do not worry he ate better tonight once we got settled in at our campground in Mississippi. I wish there was more to say but TN is a HUGE A*$ state. Please forgive my language but it took forever. Thank goodness there was a time change today that gave us an extra hour😊
We hope you are all well! Tomorrow we have a busy day scheduled in Memphis. Please do a dance for our air conditioner!!!! Miss you all....
