Got to Georgetown on Tuesday and stopped to wait out weather and flooding in Myrtle Beach. Lots of current and debris in the water from rain over the past few weeks. I don't want to bend another shaft by running over another log . I'll probably head out Sunday or Monday. If I wasn't a fair weather sailor and had more experience in the ocean and wasn't by myself and blah blah, I would go out for an overnight and come back in Masonborro inlet at Wrightsville Beach. Instead I will take the ICW when the weather is right. I like Georgetown better than Beaufort. The marina is very nice and it is right in town. Easy walking to many restaurants. The Riverwalk is nice and a few restaurants have outside decks looking over the river. ... read more

This morning I woke up early at 5:30am and peeked out my window to see if some of the clouds had cleared so that we could see the sunrise. With a little bit of pink shining through, I took it as a hopeful sign and packed up my bag and met sunrise crew downstairs to walk across the street for the sunrise. Not much of the clouds gave way, but we did appreciate watching the sky light up by the ocean water and having a slower start to our morning. A man named James Randazzo chatted with us for a bit and we told him about our organization—the typical Bike & Build spiel and he asked some good questions. After chatting with him and with each other for a bit, we went back to the host ... read more

We left Beaufort North Carolina at around 4 pm Monday 14th, a little earlier than planned by about 2 hours. However since we were ready and wanted to get out of the channel in daylight we cast off. The waves were higher than the forecast suggested, and poor Caribee was bouncing up and down. The good news is the motor does not overheat anymore! We knew the winds would not be in our favour, but we chose this weather window anyway because the waves were supposed to calm down to almost nothing for close to three days. At some point along the trip we would be at an angle to motor sail. The waves did calm down a bit ,and although it was not a smooth overnight ride it was relatively warm... only one set of ... read more

We're going great, despite the reports on our fancy satellite weather display. It has been hot, humid and the weather is feeling fretful around us, just like it is in the rest of the continent. The weather picture got a lot better when I figured out how to delete the storm indicator arrows and figures. But it was a shock when I first looked at the display, expecting fair winds. So we have been taking small steps along the coast, visitng and waiting for thunderstorms to pass. We've had visits at St. Simon Island and Brunswick, Georgia and Hilton Head, South Carolina. Then we zoomed through Charleston because we've visited there a few times by land and sea and the weather was petulant in the giant harbour. We have staying inside and redoing the ICW in ... read more
