So, I found out that Eric, our fraternity's traveling Charge consultant, is obsessed with the beautiful upcoming country singer Taylor Swift. He so adores her and the rest of us on the table couldn't help it but look at each other and smile. Our conversation at our little Japanese dinner continued, ranging from Boston's party scene to our pact of hiking up the Mt. Kilimanjaro sometime in the near future, and our brotherhood in the fraternity has been established once more. Only a few hours before, I was introduced to Eric and 'Optimus Prime' at the University of South Carolina's beautiful campus, and now four of us sitting on the table represented one strong fraternity from four different colleges across the United States - myself from Iowa State University, Adam (whom I previously have met) from ... read more

Hey again. So the other travel blog was way more complicated than I need or wanted. So I am back writing here. This has been a wierd but good summer. Brief update for those who don't know I did not go back to China. I have been living at home. I am now working at Portrait Innovations in Columbia which I like. Taking portrait pictures is a lot different then the photography I was doing but I enjoy it. I bought my first car which i am happy about. hmmmm what else. Nothing, my life consists of waking up , go running , get dressed, go to work, come home wash clothes and iron clothes and go t bed just to do it all over again. I love my life. But its all good because I ... read more

A trip on Greyhound makes you think allot about where your at. I spent most of the time modding a hat and listening to music. It funny how when you still long enough the mind clears. The trip got interesting around South Carolina we picked up a drunk had the bus drive stopping twice on the highway. He was pretty bad and sitting on the isle sleep didn't help his balance much. Sunglasses on help to avoid his need to talk to people. I'm wonder what the conference will bring and if it will have problems like last year. Either way I am excited about the what it has to offer. Chris and Jen I hope you are doing ok I miss you two allot. I'm counting the days til Halfstacks arrival. You two have everything ... read more

I successfully made it through the first segment of my internship assignment in New York. I spent the 3 weeks collecting and organizing demographic information for Laerdal's major market segments (Healthcare, Pre-Hospital, Professional Education, Government, and National Accounts). I used information from existing marketing plans, databases the company had purchased, previously collected demographic information from other Laerdal departments/employees, and LOTS of Google searches!! I combined all the information into Excel spreadsheets for each market segment to show comparisons across various sources and discrepancies within the existing information. I also created a "bibliography" to provide details and websites for the sources I used (in case Laerdal employees would like to access or cite the same sources in the future) and a PowerPoint presentation summarizing what I had done and th... read more

Well, I'm back home now for a few days. Finished up Madrid on Friday and flew back to the States on Saturday. I made a quick swing through Charleston to visit family on my mom's side and to go to a 25th anniversary party before really getting back home to Columbia on Sunday night. I've been chilling out, recuperating, and trying to finish up class papers for the past couple of days. I drive out on Friday morning for the first leg of my internship and will be spending the weekend visiting some more family on my dad's side. I start my assignment in Wappingers Falls, NY on Monday, April 30. For the first leg in the US office, I'll be helping to build a database from competitor research for Laerdal Medical. Until then, here's ... read more

I'll be keeping this blog during my travels around the world as part of my International MBA program. My journey begins with a 3-week class in Europe (1 week each in Ireland, Portugal, and Spain.) After the class, I start a marketing internship with Laerdal Medical (a privately-held Norwegian company) and will be working in their US and Australian offices. I will spend May in Wappingers Falls, NY (1.5-2 hours outside of NYC), and then I get to spend June through mid-August in Melbourne, Australia!! I thought this would be a good way to keep friends and family updated with my adventures and photos, so I hope you enjoy!... read more

Last weekend we had the privelege of visiting and staying with our sister sarah in South Carolina's capital, Columbia. She showed the local watering hole as well as the barnes and noble, starbucks, and super-wal-mart. We attended the Sunday morning service at the downtown First Baptist Church. it was a typical, wonderful, lazy Sunday afternoon. We left at about 10:00pm and drove through the state of Georgia and into Florida where we spent the night.... read more

I went on a very miserable trip yesterday. It was 100 degrees and this trail said it was a six mile loop moderate to beginner. I set off and about halfway through realized I had left my water in the car. I was hot and thirsty. The trail would have been okay but there were a lot of sandy spots. When going downhill I picked up speed but I would have to slow down because of the sand. It really was not even a pretty trail. I went down to the actual park and that was pretty. i just really like water trails the nature trail really did not impress me. ... read more

Today i went to my favorite place to ride my bike. i am not sure why but The Canal is just the right distance for me. It was really crowded today because I went early in the morning and everyone was trying to beat the heat. I was also upset because they are working on the dam so there was a lot of construction which marred the view. But it was still good it gave me time to let my thoughts roam. I never realized what a city of bridges Columbia is. But not pretty bridges like Paris. Like in the movie Sabrina when she goes to the different bridges to read and write and its quaint pretty and romantic. Columbia is more of practical bridge city. With Canal on one side and the Congaree on ... read more

So I am starting my journey around Columbia on my bike. While I am really excited about all the traveling i am going to be doing I have not really explored the place I have lived for the past four years. Yes, i have seen the daily routes but what does Columbia really have that i have not experienced. Today was beautiful I could not have asked for a more perfect day and a great place to start. The Cayce riverwalk is an easy bike by beautiful water. I took some great pictures even took time to crawl out on the rocks and drink in the beauty. If you are looking for an easy walk through the shade, like bridges the riverwalk is great. There were more people then I would have liked there are buildings ... read more
