Our smallest state
The homeless situation in the U.S. is shocking. It grows daily. We shall have to add this to our list of things to discuss. Newport draws a lot of tourist but being early April didn't hurt. Dave and I are always amazed by peoples excess wealth and wonder what they did to earn all of that? As you said, the coast offers many stunning views. I'm glad you enjoyed your hiking. Most people don't take the time to visit Rhode Island and certainly not those from other countries. Good for you! MJ

Smallest State
Thanks MJ - I really enjoyed small and cute little Rhode Island! I think like yourselves in Corsica, I enjoyed being the only English tourist in town ? Indeed, the Newport mansions did make me wonder what it must be like to have such wealth. Ah, interesting to note that my observations of homelessness may reveal a deeper underlying issue there, happy for sure to discuss that at some point. Enjoying your blog about your trip through New England. We have yet to visit Newport, RI, on our list. Another Vanderbilt mansion is The Biltmore, modeled after a French chateau, in Asheville, North Carolina. Recommend visiting it if you have the opportunity.

So that huge mansion is only the small vacation house. It is quite telling how rich the Vanderbilts actually were when they could throw that much money on a building they would only use part of the year. /Ake
