Howdy All - Well, until we can get back out into the world following our wedding we'd love to show you around our little world here in Doylestown just north of Philadelphia. Lot's of soccer moms, developments, and Volvos. The downtown is actually very quiant and trying to offer something more. Sarah and I particularly like the small movie theatre with mostly indy and international films, the little coffee shop that roasts their own beans (stinks like burnt dog while they do it, though). A few nice restaur. without alot of variation. Mostly, we love being able to walk to the store, buy some wine, go to the cool little french cafe and slow down, dreaming about adventures yet to come and the crazy things we've already seen. We'll be headed down to Virginia for a ... read more

The 2005 Philadelphia Flower Show This year's Central Feature exhibit is titled "America the Beautiful," and showcases great garden ideas from around the country. William Penn had once described Philadelphia as a "green country town". The Pennsylvania Horticultural society founded in 1827 has worked diligently through the years to maintain that important connection of community through horticulture. The Flower Show proceeds go to support the non-profit activities of PHS, included Philadelphia Green, a national model for urban greening projects. This year, the flower show included an exhibit "When Life gives you Lemons...make Lemonade", which raised awareness and funds for pediatric cancer. Okay, just spend the last 3 days at the conference. Am so sick of this conference - its been extremely educational, but I think i'm just getting restless. Simon (ex speech labs guy who now lives in Pittsburg) qnd his fiancee came down - so its been nice catching up with them. We ate at this really nice italian place which had the creamiest pasta ever. Apart from that, haven't really done much apart from attend the conference and laze about watching cable TV. Cable TV here is so cool - there's always something on - watched a show about obese babies - this one kid was 8 months old and ate a steak for dinner every night. Who looked like an animated lump of lard.... read more

Today was our first real day in Philadelphia and unforunately the first day of the conference. Thankfully, Terry wasn't feeling up to attending the conference, which was great, because I was in way too much of a lethargic mood for doing so. Now before you start thinking 'tsk tsk tsk ... they should do work stuff on a work holiday', you should know that there wasn't anything relevant to our work at the conference that day, so bludging wasn't really such a naughty thing to do. Anyway, I digress. We headed off to the historical part of Phili which pretty much encompasses the entirity of Phili's tourist circuit. Philadelphia is actually a fairly signifcant city in the US, because this is where the constitution was formulated by Thomas Jefferson and his friends and was also where ... read more

Finally arrived in Philadelphia after a grueling 26 hours of traveling. The plane trip was really horrible. I first flew for 3.5h to New zealand first, stopped there for 2 hours, then 12 hours to LA, stopped there for 2 hours, then flew to philadelphia for 5 hours, then had to sit in the airport and wait 2 hours for terry's (my colleague who is attending the conference in Phili with me) flight to come in (he caught a different flight between LA and Phili). On the positive, I managed to score 4 very good plane food meals, including a chicken schnitzel, lasagne, and this really nice noodle chicken salad. I also watched about 5 movies, though I couldnt see half of them because the big idiot in front of me had a big head that ... read more

11.10.2004 - Home again Middlebourg, Pennsylvania, USA In the last days I noticed a new emotion. Whether I am at the apartment of a host, in the car of a driver who picked me up at a gas station, or lying on the grass in the city park, I feel like I'm at home. The world became my home. Currently I am home, at Jess's in Middleburg, Pennsylvania. Tomorrow I will be at home again probably in Washington DC and in Orlando, or even Miami the day after. In the meantime I will find my home in different cars, service stations, and sidewalks of local roads and entrances to interstates. I do not miss anybody; I don't need anybody in particular. If I want to be together with my parents, sister or friends, it is enough ... read more
