Feelin' the Love
in the city of brotherly love! Our last visit was a great one. The weather was BEAUTIFUL! Sun was shining and it was so warm. We kept saying it was a warm-up to the Caribbean weather we’d soon be in!
Nicole, Steph, Katelyn, and I took a taxi to the mall, ran a few shopping errands, and ate some yummy Subway. My friend Donray (with whom I worked in Honduras) then picked us up from the mall for a day of site-seeing.
It was SOOOOO good to see my Dizzle (one of many nicknames we have for Donray). It’s funny how ship life gets. You work with the same people that you live with, socialize and party with. Reminders of home are always nice. Donray is a nice reminder of friends “back home”, even though he was my friend from Honduras - which feels a lot like home as well. I had been going through some drama on the ship and was in need of a giant hug from familiar arms.
Donray was still pretty excited about the Phillies wining the World Series, therefore breaking the Penn Curse. It seemed like everywhere we went there were people sporting t-shirts.
Our first stop on
our Philly tour was the Philly LOVE statue. This made for a good photo op. But the best photo op was at the Philadelphia Museum of Art where the famous steps are that “Rocky” runs up. We of course did the run, and the cheers, and the photos. We saw some friends from the ship there as well. Beautiful view from the top of those steps!
Next was supposed to be the Liberty Bell, but it was that or piercing my nose, and I went with the latter!
Piercing my nose has always been something that I have thought about doing, but never actually done. I always thought it would look cool, but never got up the guts to just do it. Working with Katelyn, and Nicole, who both have their noses pierced, the thought came back again. I decided just to do it, so Donray drove us to a street downtown that had a bunch of tattoo places, and we found a shop that was strictly for piercing. It was super busy, which we thought was a good sign, so in I went. I signed a waiver, Katelyn helped me pick my stud, we waited 15 minutes, and
then into the room I went. Katelyn and Nicole went with me, while Steph and Dizzle waited out front. The lady picked the spot of my nose and marked it with a marker to see if I liked it. I agreed, she cleaned my nose, I lay back, and closed my eyes until it was over. I didn’t wanna see what was going into my nose. Nicole told me later that the size of the needle was a little scary. Good think I didn’t look! Nicole held my hand while it went in. It wasn’t very painful. There was a sharp pain but then it was just awkward while she worked in the piercing and tucked it all in nicely. Ever since, it has barely hurt. I’ve knocked my nose by accident a couple times but it’s not painful. I’m trying to take good care of it so that it doesn’t get infected, but overall, I LOVE IT! I couldn’t stop looking at myself in the mirror for the first couple days. Even still, I love the way it looks.
So after that it was back to the ship. Dizzle dropped us off and I gave him a giant
hug goodbye. I love that boy. Being as how he is dating one of my best friends (Alisa), I feel very close to him as well and was so glad that after a year of not seeing each other, I was able to see him twice in 2 months. My friends all thought he was great too, and agreed it was a great day.
This day also marked the start of me taking over as supervisor in the Kids Korner. Our supervisor, Linda, was going away for a week to Miami (for a training conference), and then will be back for a week, and then is signing off for vacation and transferring to another ship. There is a new supervisor signing on in December, but they needed a replacement until then, so Linda picked me to take her spot. I was very flattered, having only worked for the company for less than 2 months, however apparently all of my training, education, and previous experience shone through. Although the responsibilities will increase, so will my pay (slightly) for a month, so I’m looking forward to the challenge.
I’m also looking forward to the amazing sunshine that is sure to
greet us in the Caribbean!
