The road out of Mount Holly Springs runs through open farmland. The route zigs and zags as it climbs over the ridges, gradually carrying me NE towards New York. One crosses Blue Mountain ridge, then Tuscarora Ridge, before descending into a valley from another era. The Amish and Mennonite farms provide an island of order, peace and old world tranquility. Horse drawn carts and farm implements are used as naturally as if we were still living in 1850. Farmers and their families dressed in nineteenth century garb wave as one drives by. Flowers line the roads and fields. There is so much pride in the land and what it produces, it fills one with hope. State forests cover the ridges. The Amish country lead up to Tuscarora State Forest. Rothrock was next, named after the "Father ... read more

All’s well on our home front...knock on wood! Knock, Knock, Knock (Sheldon always knocks 3 times). I’m going through a little blog withdrawal so decided to take you on our tour of Winchester, Virginia that we did last evening. You’ll like it....we did and Lulu loved it. Any new adventure for her is like an ice cream sundae with a cherry on top....the best! We checked into Candy Hill Campground. Located at the end of a residential neighbor! As I mentioned on my Facebook posting, it was filled up because Winchester was having some big Spring Apple Festival. From the way everyone talked, it’s big doings. Cory had to unhook our car and back our rig into our site. There was a guy helping him but I was also out there. It looked like Cory was ... read more

"This place is fucked up" ... ... were Ian's first words when we rode into the campground this afternoon. I have to agree with him. Let me explain. Before we left for this trip, we had researched a few places that we wanted to see and stay, and the Steel Steeds Campground "geared for motorbikers" was on our list. It's just south of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, on the Susquehanna River. Their website tagline reads "All you need is your toothbrush and jammies." In my mind, I had envisioned rolling into a large, clean site with tidy gravel roads leading to RVs along the riverbank, enveloped in trees for privacy, modern bathroom facilities, and in particular where we would get a chance to visit and talk with other bikers. Reality check: we were the only bikers there. Reality ... read more

Dear All, On this last day of the tour, I returned to Pennsylvania on my way home, and toured Bucknell and Susquehanna. BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY Student Body Population--3500 Classroom Performance 93% in top quarter of high school class Mid 50% Test Scores (if required) 1230-1400 % Out of State 77% % Male 50% This beautiful, well maintained campus reminded me of Wake Forest in its architecture, its students and its objectives. I met with Carol Gadd, associate director of Bucknell’s admissions office, prior to the 8:30 am information session, and then joined part of the campus tour. I only wish I could have stayed longer! Many students who attend Bucknell seem to be the product of several generations of family members who have attended the school. Alumni pride and money donated to the school are obvious from ... read more

Dear All, Tours of Wesleyan University, Trinity and the United States Military Academy follow… WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY Student Body Population--2800 Classroom Performance 78% had a 3.5 or higher Mid 50% Test Scores (if required) 1300-1490 % Out of State 92% % Male 49% I arrived to the campus early and enjoyed a hot breakfast in the school’s dining hall. I was particularly excited to see Wesleyan because of its strong academic reputation. Our tour guide described the school as “mellow”, “open”. I would add that it seems to attract an eclectic group of students. Note To Parents: The tour guides recommended parents and students follow separate tour guides so that parent and student can share different perspectives after the visit. This seemed to work well. Tour Otis was my tour guide. He is a rising sophomore from ... read more
