Biking ERIE Pennsylvania's Karl Boyes Multi-Purpose Trail in Presque Isle State Park . The Karl Boyes Multi-Purpose Trail is located in Lake Erie, just outside of Erie Pennsylvania in Presque isle State Park. Have biked this trail on two occasions, the last time being 2017. The entire park is a peninsula that juts out into Lake Erie in the form of an axe head and handle. The handle portion gives access to the park. It is the only road in or out. Directions: Route 832 to 25 Peninsula Drive Erie, PA 16505 GPS: 42.113717, -80.154402. At the entrance to the park, there is a private campground. You will see a sign for the park but no gate. Surprise!! There is NO CHARGE! How nice! Parking is not a problem since near the begin... read more

…was another day that didn’t turn out as planned. No, I didn’t visit another hospital. This one had everything to do with the east coast being so OLD. The plan was to go to Niagara Falls. Things were going great…I got up on time (Mike’s always up early), we got out of the campground at a decent time, got Rosie dialed in to Niagara Falls State Park and off we went. Got into the town of Niagara Falls and Rosie told us to take a right turn on a particular road that would lead us to the park. Luckily we noticed the sign before we made the turn: Max Height 10 ft. What?!? Seriously??? We’re between 12 and 13 feet tall. We drove around and around trying to find another way in, but couldn’t find any ... read more

OMG! The sunrise today was beautiful! You could see Mackinac Island in the background over the lake...WOW! Today was a very boring day...this was a driving day. We are trying to make it to the east coast and now heading south and then east. We went through the outskirts of Detroit, MI and right through the middle of Cleveland, OH. There has been a lot of road construction, but everything has been moving along. We are in Erie, PA and have had glimpse of Lake Erie. Tomorrow we are headed for Niagria Falls and Watertown, NY! The kids are doing great and Megan is excited to see Niagria Falls!... read more

I thought it was the appropriate time to add an entry for Erie. I've been living up here for a month and a half now. I was accepted into the Applied Intelligence Masters Program at Mercyhurst College. My advice from everyone: "good luck in Erie, get some good snow tires!" We haven't gotten into the winter yet, but so far I'm loving it up here in Erie. The city is a little gem of Pennsylvania. It is home to four major universities and a number of smaller technical institutes. But what I love about this place so far is that there's always something going on. Maybe it's the city's way of saying 'hey, I know we have miserable drawn out snowy/icy winters, but look at all the other cool stuff we do!" With a winery in ... read more

We avoided motorways so it was a good drive. We saw some Anish on the way. Erie is very nice and the lake is fantastic. We had a great dinner but are still both very sad ... read more

Miles Today: 450 We had a better start today! We left at a quarter to 9 and drove until we got to Erie, Pennsylvania. There we stopped at Presque Isle State Park, a beautiful little peninsula jutting into lake Erie. There were beaches, woods, birds, monuments, and bike trails. Much to my surprise, my mom suggested that we rented a surrey together. It was quite a contraption. It was like being in a landlocked paddle boat- we could both pedal at our own speed and I had control of turning. We biked about 4 miles together, probably never hitting more than 6 or 7 miles per hour, but having a leisurely jaunt around the park. We saw lots of Canadian geese and commented on all of the other bikers going around the park. There were tricycles, ... read more

Hello, again. I'll try a more detailed and descriptive blog this time. As of right now, its February 5th, 2008 at around 11:30 pm, and I'll be leaving my house soon (with my parents and brother in tow) and heading to the train station where I will board a west bound train at 1:36 am headed for Chicago. The last week or so has been pretty busy, with me gettin everything together to leave and all. I had to finalize all my plans, from very important things like ensuring I had my plain ticket, insurance information and passport to seemingly less important things along the lines of what t-shirts to take and how many books is too much. I had a heated internal debate today over whether I should take 5 pairs of socks or 4, ... read more

This is my first post, and I'm just trying to understand how this works. But first an introduction. My name is Jeremy, and I'm a recent college graduate from Erie, Pa. I graduated from Bloomsburg University in December of 2007, and my career plans include eventually going to law school. However, before I go down that path, I decided to take a year off and I'm moving to New Zealand for a year. I'm leaving Erie on February 5th, and I should be gone for about a year. Uhh, thats all for now. ... read more

Today we barely did anything. That’s about it, we drove most of the day and arrived at our campsite in the early evening to cook dinner and have some drinks. Jon told us we could walk down to the lake if we wanted but apparently it was a long walk and we just couldn’t be bothered. We sat around the campsite drinking for most of the night and then the other trek group joined us in getting drunk. We were up quite late but were all looking forward to what was coming up tomorrow. After a day on the road, we made our first detour in Erie, PA. Neither of us knew much about Erie. I think collectively we knew that there was a Lake Erie, an Erie Canal and that if you added another ‘e’ than you got the word that meant ‘spooky’. We also knew that is was in Pennsylvania, and to us that meant the Pennsylvania Dutch and the Liberty Bell. Yep. That’s pretty much what we knew. A whole lot of not-very-much-that’s-useful. Perhaps that’s why we both jumped at the chance to stop and explore this city at the invitation of a friend of ours. What we came to find out is that Erie has a lot to boast about! This self-deprecated “Mistake on the Lake” is anything but. We met up with our hostess for ... read more
