23 - 25 November - Portland We were collected at Union Station, Portland, by Nancy's cousin Brent and his wife Kathryn to hear the news that Uncle Gary is in intensive care. Thankfully he was much better by the time we left, but I don't think our visit made things any easier for the Portland branch of the family who were clearly going through difficult times. Aunt Cheryl still hosted a big family dinner for us at her home - taco soup followed by cake and ice cream - attended by cousin Kim, her husband Jeff and children Annabeth and Stephen; cousin Sarah, husband Jeff (also) and daughter Claire; cousin Martin, wife Loni and son Coy and of course Brent, Kathryn, Nancy and I. Since Aunt Cheryl was at the hospital for most of our visit ... read more

Heading out from Leavenworth, we took the scenic route that took us past the spectacular Mt Ranier and through central Washington. The drive was much longer than we anticipated but most agreed (at least Dad did) that it was well worth it. Soon we were on familiar roads along the Oregon Coast and like usual, the beautiful beaches drew us in. Parking our trailer, everyone was quick to want to explore Cannon Beach and search out favourite ice cream and salt water taffy treats (those freebies are always welcome and addicting - oohh, just one more). We did some exploring that we hadn't done in previous years including hiking down and exploring through Ecola State Park. The water is cold but that doesn't hold back the Connor kids as they played in the surf for hours. ... read more

The past week and a half has been full of adventure, beauty, manifestation, and travel. The original plan was to stay in Arcata for the week to spend time with friends, as well as to make some money (at least enough to make up for the precious days taken off of work in Santa Cruz). But as is consistent with my life right now, the Universe had much more exciting and enlightening plans for me! After the first few days in Arcata, Phoenix and I got pulled to continue our travels - first to Redding to visit her Grandmother, and then on to Oregon and whatever adventure that held. So on November 6th we headed west on Route 199, headed to Redding. From this drive on we were surrounded by incredible beauty as we winded through ... read more

A tradition has been for my mother and I to go to the beach and celebrate my birthday. This is the first time I have done so since she passed away four years ago. I went to Lincoln City where she liked to go and down to the bay at the south end of Lincoln City. There many people gathered to watch the tide ebb and flow, eat at Moe's restaurant, build fires on the shore, gather driftwood, and let their dogs roam the shoreline. But there was a couple of friendly gentlemen that I recognized from five years ago. They were still there sitting beside their bonfire, drinking their hidden beverage from a brown bag hidden inside another bag. I wandered up to them and began to talk. As I introduced myself, one of the ... read more

I’m not sure why, but instead of heading straight up to Seattle I decided to spend a couple of nights in Portland, Oregon. I’ve heard from a few people that it’s amazing this time of year and the people are friendly. Turns out they were right. I arrived on Sunday night around 8pm after a 24 hour train ride from San Francisco. I spent the journey sat next to a guy called Elijah who was from Seattle and had been hitchhiking his way around California for the past month and was on his way home now that his money had ran out. I was really impressed at his outlook on life, he works solidly at whatever work he can find for a few months, then travels as much as he can until the money runs out. ... read more

Yes, okay, we live in Sequim, and we're flying from Portland, OR, to Tel Aviv through Frankfurt. We're sitting in a Starbuck's listening to French music, looking at an Alaskan Airlines Eskimo. Are we international or what?? We spent our first night, last night, at Bob and Julie's (Ron's sister), and Julie took us to the airport this morning. Nothing too eventful unless you consider their terrific hospitality or the downpour on the way. And yes, we've leaving on election day. Depending on who wins depends, we may or may not come home... But we're here and ready to go ~ now they're playing Salsa music! Until next time!... read more

Mike: This may seem quickly written, and will more than likely contain a fair share of typos - because they're gouging us for internet time in Lincoln City, and I just found out the dollar has plummeted! Sharon last updated the blog in Portland - and, like always, a lot has happened since the last post! We said goodbye to Matt, and headed west - and north, for some odd reason (decided to skip the mountain range by following the Columbia river). Slept in a ditch near St. Helen's (the town, not the volcanic mountain) and were pleasantly awoken by gun shots - apparently goose hunting season has started! The funny thing is that it really didn't phase us that much... we just layed in the tent till it got light out, packed up, and hit ... read more
