Waterfalls in the lagoon at Cougar Hot Springs
Super blissful place to escape too. This place is a treasure upon a treasure. We fell in love with our new favorite Hot Springs here in Oregon.
Cougar Hot Springs
also known as
Terwilliger Hot Springs
Cougar Hot Springs, a cascading series of five natural rock pools with warm waterfalls, surrounded by old-growth forest, moss laden limbs, abundant ferns, & right now loads of beautiful butterflies. Seriously this is our favorite Hot Springs site now. & We've been to a few here in Oregon. This one by far takes the cake. It was a very awesome drive, with lots of amazing geology to pass thru. The first day we got there, the parking lot was packed. We headed to the hoodoo kiosk, paid our $5 per person day use fee. Then we started our hike in a quarter mile until we reached the hot springs pools. The springs are located in the Willamette National Forest. The elevation there at the springs is 1,852 feet/ 564 meters above sea level. The hike in was awesome and refreshing. When we got to the springs themselves, there were both clothed & nude people in most of the pools. Noone was in the bottum one so we headed to that one first. The temperature in that
The path into the springs
On the path into the hot springs, I am excited!!! pool was like a warm bath. It was nice. We hung out in there for a bit than went to the next one up. That pool was warmer, each pool you go up, the temperature does too. The top one was 108 degree's F/ 42 degrees C, as that is the first pool where the hot springs source cascades down out of the source, a little cave. We actually did the top pool on the second day visit. It was
HOT!!! But lovely! After the that we enjoyed a bucket of cold water over our heads from the cold springs running along down the hillside just next to the pools.
The hot springs are not the only awesome thing about this spot! We headed back out on the trail and went to the swimming lagoon, which is huge, & has a very comfortable swimming temperature of about 75 degrees F/ 24 degrees C with a huge waterfall. Super awesome swimming spot, and not cold, as most of the rivers & lakes in Oregon are cold because of mountain snow run offs. This place stole our hearts and we will go back again whenever we can.
