We had a long, long drive today from La Pine to Mt Hood. On our left, we had beautiful views of the Cascade Mountains; including snowcapped Mt Washington, Mt Jefferson, the Three Sisters, and Mt Bachelor. On our right, we viewed the desert-like terrain with dust funnels and tumble weeds. If we didn't know better, we would have thought we were in Arizona. Late afternoon, we arrived at Mt. Hood only to discover they rolled up the sidewalk at 2:00pm. No more lift rides up the mountain and no tours of the great lodge today. At first we were really disappointed, but, being the flexible people we are, we made an adjustment to our plans. We decided we would view the falls along the Columbia River today and Mt Hood tomorrow. Back in the car again! ... read more

This morning was sunny and mostly clear. The standing water from yesterday evening’s hard rain was mostly gone. We drove east to Hwy 410, getting an occasional glimpse of Mt. Rainier. Hwy 410 was beautiful, with dark forests, the green waters of the White River visible through the trees. However it was very bumpy. It made my adventure road feel like a newly paved super highway. Well, not quite. At Cayuse Pass, elevation 4694’, there was plenty of snow along the sides of the road. The road had steadily climbed to the pass and then, of course, we went down. It wasn’t too bad, but Kerry does hate those steep downhills. After Cayuse, the road south became hwy 123 for a while before joining US Hwy 12. While in the Mt. Rainier National Park, the scenery ... read more

We had to be at the Harley shop in Gladstone at 9 when it opened so we were up at 7:30 am. Got there and checked in and they said it would be around 2:30pm. We went to breakfast at McD's and went back to the Harley shop and piddled around for several hours. It was getting hot there so I opted to sit in their lounge and read. Piper slept. They finally got done around 3pm and we went back to the campsite for a few minutes before leaving to find a local Mex restaurant for dinner. Had a large margarita. Came back and looked at a movie on the computer then crashed for the night. Tomorrow it's on to Idaho.... read more

We got a late start this AM since we don't have that far to drive. Said goodbye to Sara who was still in the bed. They got home after we did last night. We headed out around 10AM. Arrived at the campsite around 2pm. I didn't know this was an RV only campsite. I had explained to the people on the phone what we were pulling and she said there was no problem. After we setup the camper, I put Piper down on the grass and this voice calls out from the huge RV next to us. She was telling me that she puts her dog out on a lead and that he will attack her if she comes over there. She said he's a rescue and was attacked by coyotes. Well, I snatched Piper up ... read more
