Day One - Day Four

We arrived in Seattle on Saturday 28th August at 11.30am Seattle time. Unfortunately our bikes didn't arrive until 5.30pm. We stayed in a motel as we didn't have time to put the bikes together and cycle to the campsite before it got dark.

Sunday 29th August we arrived at Dash Point Campsite 25 miles from Seattle (15 miles from the airport).
Monday 30th August we sorted our gear and walked around the campsite which is set in acres of forest.
Tuesday 31st August we visited Seattle. What a fantastic place. Even though it was heavy rain and freezing we could appreciate how cool this city was.

Rest days over it was time to make a move and by Wednesday 1st September 2010 we were ready to set off.
Day Five Seattle - Alder Lake Campsite near Mt Rainier - 58 miles.
Day Six Alder Lake - Ike Kinswa Campsite - 50 miles.
Day Seven Ike Kinswa - Lewis & Clark Campsite - 20 miles.
Day Eight Lewis & Clark - Marina Campsite in Cathlamet - 59 miles.
Day Nine Cathlamet to Cannon Beach Hotel - 58 miles.

Total cycled so far -
270 miles.

Highlights -

* Visiting Seattle coffee shops and fish market.
* Meeting the Sheriff in Eatonsville.
* David being offered a handgun from an American camper to protect us!
* Cycling alongside the mighty Columbian River.
* Seeing Mt. Rainier and Mt. St Helens.
* Cycling to 'Mineral'. A village with a lake overlooking Mt. Rainier.
* Astoria market. A lovely town over looking a 4.2 mile bridge connecting Washington State to Oregon.
*The tremendously friendly people we've met along the way.

Lowlight - The traffic for the first 40 miles coming out of Seattle. We likened it to cycling around the M25 in rush hour.

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.......................
Sitting having a few beers in the KOA campsite in Manchester Beach trying to get drunk so I'm zonked out and don't hear any of the wildlife/critters! Having a 'different' time. It's a real challenge, nothing like a holiday. Looking forward to get abit further south so the weather warms up a bit. 145 miles from San Fran at the mo so another few days until we get there. Give our love to everyone..xx
