Geo: 42.1947, -122.708On the road in my new home. Ahh! I was surprised to see that Honey Lake is actually a lake. Of course, it probably doesn't get more than 4 inches deep, but whatever. Susanville is just as depressing as I remember. Northeastern California is more beautiful than I remember. It's funny - most people think of CA and all that comes to mind is San Francisco, Los Angeles, or the big hot valley full of fruit and assholes. People from southern California have it in their heads that San Francisco is northern California. Not sure if you guys have looked at a map recently, but there's a couple hundred miles above that. But you probably don't care, anyway, which is fine, cause I doubt they really care about you, either.Oregon! A couple times as ... read more

We spent the last week in Ashland. We originally were going to only spend a few days and get on to Portland. However, the grandbaby is not ready to join us yet. So, we decided to hang out in Ashland. It gave us more time to hang out with Patrick. We met with Patrick's college adviser and had dinner with his roommates. It was very cold and wet in Ashland. Every morning when I would take Red out for his walk there would be frost on the ground, fog and it would be about 30 degrees. Somedays there would be some sun in the afternoon. One night the propane tank ran out and the heater was pumping cold air. It was just plain COLD. We got to Portland this afternoon. Dana's due date was yesterday. ... read more

June in Oregon, ahhhh. The Pacific Northwest is GORGEOUS and I think I chose the perfect time of year to be here. It rained the first week I was in Oregon, then was sunny and perfect for the rest of the month, so I cannot complain. I spent one week in Tiller, OR at PermaOrganic Goat Farm with Dan, the other wwoofer, located 20+ miles from anything, even a post office, with no cell service, surrounded by the national forest. Dan and I spent our time walking in the forest with the goats, reading, drinking goat milk and playing lots and lots of cards! We milked seven mini-Nubian goats every morning, using the milk to drink and make cream cheese and butter. There was more milk than we could consume or make cream cheese with, so ... read more

So I guess I should touch on how this whole crazy thing began.... 1. The travel bug/wanderlust At some point in college I was introduced to the idea of a study abroad. Which I didn't do, however it set the idea in my head... and more specifically Italy. So I began to study the italian language and fell in love with it. Then shortly after graduation from college I heard about AuPair jobs. A friend from high school told about greataupair.com and I signed up, found a family and went to Italy. It didnt quite work out the way i had hoped, and I returned after only 2 months. I had spent most of my time near Milan in a small village called Barlasina. And had taken a holiday (during my stay and after I left ... read more

So here I am, only 10 days from my european adventure of 2010. I am just feeling anxious, excited, happy, nostalgic. It was an odd feeling looking at my day planner for the next 10 days.... so busy and full. Massage to do here, party on this day, work, packing, very full days. Then suddenly- my each day in my planner is EMPTY. This is almost surreal. I think this means I work too much and that this trip is well deserved and needed. Here we go, the count down has begun!... read more

Our next stop was Ashland, Oregon where we stayed for three days, saw four plays, and tried a "new" restaurant. We could see snow up in the hills from our bedroom window at the B&B where we stayed. It was cold outside and a jacket was required. We enjoyed productions of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Hamlet, and Pride and Prejudice.... read more

It’s the 75th anniversary of the OSF in Ashland. I just got back from seeing three plays this weekend. While Pride and Prejudice was a strong production - it just couldn’t compare to the amazing performance of Hamlet or Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I’m writing because if you’ve ever thought you’d like to go - choosing to see either or both of these would make it a trip you won’t regret. We talked about both of them almost the entire 5 hour drive home. We can also recommend you check for housing on Craigslist. We found a room above an antique store that is literally 2 blocks from the theater. It was a sweet bedroom and bath with some setup for coffee/refrigerator. It is one block from the food co-op (think New Seasons). The ... read more

We made it out of Big Bear by 9:30 on Wednesday morning. If you know Ed, you know what a feat that was! We went as far as Stockton the first day. A little over 400 miles. Scratch is very happy. It only took him about 30 minutes to figure out how to get from the truck into the camper and he has been there ever since. He did come out for a little while last night on the retractable leash. That went okay, until Ed hit the wrong button and tried to reel him in like a fish! We set out this morning at 9:30 and we were in Ashland by 3:30. Tonight we are camped under the trees right next to a creek. It is so quiet you can hear the water running. We ... read more

The past week and a half has been full of adventure, beauty, manifestation, and travel. The original plan was to stay in Arcata for the week to spend time with friends, as well as to make some money (at least enough to make up for the precious days taken off of work in Santa Cruz). But as is consistent with my life right now, the Universe had much more exciting and enlightening plans for me! After the first few days in Arcata, Phoenix and I got pulled to continue our travels - first to Redding to visit her Grandmother, and then on to Oregon and whatever adventure that held. So on November 6th we headed west on Route 199, headed to Redding. From this drive on we were surrounded by incredible beauty as we winded through ... read more

Today we finally hit the road! We got up bright and early at 6am, and hit the road at about 7:30. Nothing too exciting has happened today, just mostly cruising on the open road. Tonight the plan is to stay in a motel in Reno, so that puts us at about 500 miles we have to drive today. We have 5 of us traveling together in a total of 4 vehicles. So that gives us an extra driver if someone is tired. The traveling crew includes Jerry Roth, Kyle Mast, Donny Roth, Kendal Eigsti, and of course myself. It was crazy the other day because Isaac Hooley said his dad knew a guy that might be working with us in Arizona. Isaac said that his dad talked to a guy who was on his way to ... read more
