My plan that morning had been for everyone to get up and drive out to Bagby Hot Springs. Unfortunately, they were all out later than intended. Chris didn't get home until shortly after midnight which meant he had a headache at 5:30am. So we cancelled that plan because I didn't want Chris to get a migraine. We had far too much driving planned that day for that to happen. So, everyone went back to bed. We all met up in downtown Portland at the Saturday Market (it was Sunday). We glanced at the Voodoo donut line and decided hell no. Donuts are good but not THAT good. We have Psycho Donuts back in San Jose (they're just as good). We found coffee and then headed to our market. Anna really wanted to go and had heard ... read more

Elan dropped us off at 11:45pm to the airport and even though I thought there was no more TSA precheck possibilities upon checking in, both Mark amd I got it! We left a couple of hours later, slept very little on the plane to Seattle and finally arrived bleary eyed in Portland. After picking up our suitcase, had to check it because we must be prepared with knife and Swiss tool! And bedding for the RV plus a small pan set and camping plate set... Mark thinks I can make a gourmet meal now! Oh! And a lightweight down blanket... We head out in the 98*F weather on to public transportation to pick up our RV. Ever stand at a bus stop, not knowing quite where you are and seeing the bus you want to catch ... read more

Anniversary day today. Ten years since we were here last to witness Jas and Matt marry. Hard to believe its been that long. Jas and Matt are keeping it low key, which is good because this will be a rest day for us. We spent most of the day at home, playing a couple of games of Ruin that is a fun board game where the board itself changes and forms part of the playing strategy. Then a swim at the Osborne Aquatic Centre in the afternoon. With so many people there, I suggested to Kylie that if everyone jumped out at once, the water would drop two feet. The propelled river loop was like a river of people. Matt made another great dinner, this time a bean and vege chilli dish, very sweet corn on ... read more

My cold must be finally passing (faint hope), with an early morning wake. The birds at the bird feeder provided pleasant watching, with first a collection of small yellow birds and then two larger blue birds. I'd spied a little himmingbird a few days ago hanging around a purple-flowered bush on the back fence. It was smaller than a mouse, with blurring wings that sounded like a giant bumblebee (notice again the trip theme of 'giants' coming out again despite not looking for it). Ky, the boys and I took a drive back to Corvallis to check out the shops again. Ku enjoyed finding fantastical material in the quilt shop, then the boys had milkshakes at the Cafe Marche. Joseph chose a mixed choc-banana flavour. The cappucino was good. Driving has been confusing. First there's the ... read more
