Kerry's 1st entry. I have a day off the driving today so it's a chance to have a little snooze in the back of the car and enjoy the sights out the window. We left boots court motel in Carthage just before 9am after little sleep, the room was a little bit too cold for my liking but then I'm always cold. The motel was lovely very small and authentic 1930's style. We drove down to Kansas state briefly which Katie got very excited about as it's part of some wizard of oz quote. I'll take her word for it! The next part of the drive was via a bridge called rainbow bridge it was a good photo opportunity and then on to the worlds largest McDonald's. I was looking forward to this immensely, not only ... read more

Osteology is the study of bones. I mention this because one of my facebook friends said "sounds boring" and then looked it up to see what it meant (clearly not a Nurse or in the medical field). For others, some people have heard osteoarthritis. If you think of that word, then you may come to the conclusion of what osteology is. In particular, this museum holds a lot of animal bones. It came about from a boy and his childhood passion/hobby. It is very informative museum for both the young and old. If you are in the area or would like to take the kids out for a couple of hours, this would be a great place to spend it.... read more

Reflections (warning: some political commentary) We drove about 4000 miles on this trip, more than we would have liked, but unavoidable given the distances between points. In this area of the world, points of interest are far apart, and there is really no way to experience them without driving. As in Europe, I was struck by the difference in the Canadian investment in infrastructure and the amount invested in the United States. Roads were well maintained, smooth, and well marked. Bridges were often new. Those on the political right like to cry out about the financial burden we are leaving to our children with the national debt. While I agree that there is reason to be concerned about that, it is pretty obvious that the way out of that problem is to increase revenues, not simply ... read more

The one about The Oklahoma Memorial Last night I went back to the casino again for about 2 hours. I played on $20 for the longest time, all those video reels I love, and when I finally started to go into my money I stopped. I had my free soda, my free ice-cream, and got a shuttle to take me back to the RV row by 8:30. Not much on TV so I spent time writing until I fell asleep sitting upright at my dinette. I guess I missed Big Brother. Again, this bratty Winston dog had me up early. All he wants to do is get me up, go out and pee, then curl back up on my bed under the a/c vent. GROWL. I was ready to go at 7:30, but I couldn’t leave ... read more

Yesterday I spent the whole day in Albuquerque with my Grandparents, and a friend! I said good bye to them and left again this morning. Today I drove from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It took me only 8 hours! I drove through three states today too: New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. I saw lots more desert in New Mexico. In Texas and Oklahoma I saw lots of open fields with lots of grass. The dirt in Oklahoma is red! I got to see some cows, and some horses. One cow farm I drove by was very stinky!!! I also saw a water park that was inside a building instead of being outside. After I got into Oklahoma it started to rain. Now it's time for bed. Tomorrow I'm driving to St. Louis Missouri. ... read more

Geo: 35.472, -97.5203This was a day with an uneventful beginning but an emotional ending. We left Forrest City, AR at 7:55 AM, which was easy, since we gained an hour yesterday. And we drove across Arkansas on I-40 all the way to Oklahoma City, where we arrived at 4 PM. We were warned to avoid this area due to the tornados, but we headed right into it...we must be crazy. The ride was beautiful in may ways. Arkansas is a pretty state. We saw more farm land, with corn and wheat fields, and S shaped furrows on flat land. Not sure what that was all about and I can't find anything about it on the internet, but we suspect it had something to do with water retention. And we encountered construction pretty much the whole way. But ... read more

18 years ago on April 19, 1995 Timothy McVeigh and his cohort decided to destroy the innocence of America. Even moreso, the innocence of Oklahoma City. Since I had known that I was coming to Oklahoma-one of the top visits were going to be the OKC Memorial. Before 9-11, April 19th happened. While I was in Minnesota, awaiting my first nephew (who came 3 days later on April 22) a bomb exploded on a rental truck infront of the Murrah Federal Building. I often ask myself why anyone would do this? Or 9-11? Or the Holocaust? Or anything that harms other people. I just can never and will never be able to wrap my head around it...NEVER. On the grounds are is the memorial of the victims, survivors, and rescuers. Included are the Surviving Tree, the ... read more

I'm guessing most people will read this when the wake up Sunday Morning….good morning and HAPPY EASTER! We are driving into the wee-hours of the morning here in Oklahoma. Headed for New Mexico and plan to spend the better portion of a week there. A re-cap of the last few days since we have been “off the grid” and in the Louisiana Bayou. 3.28.13. Kisatchie National Forest- No showers, no running water, and free entrance! Most people had to carry their belongings into their camp since parking is off the camp site – however we pilled everything onto the kitchen and wheeled right in! We were excited to set up our awesome new tent (THANKS JACKS!!) and cook lunch. After lunch we took a little walk and explored our surroundings- the water was really gross, and ... read more
