They are not extinct. They may have eliminated herds across the West back then, but they are definitely not extinct. Many ranches exist today in the American West that contain large herds of buffalo. Ted Turner, at his ranch in Montana,
is just one of them. In Yellowstone National Park, the herds of buffalo free range.
