March 11, 2013 (Oklahoma City, OK) The DMEI Africa team will be a bit fragmented this year, with two of us going a few days early. Dr. Brad Farris and I will be leaving for Capetown via Johannesburg to attend the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa (OSSA) meeting with Dr. Jonathan Ponds. Following the meeting, we'll reunite with the medical team in Swaziland. For those of you who may want a refresher, this effort involves a medical team providing clinical care and academic exchange programs in the south African country of Swaziland . Sponsored by the Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI) , this trip supports the existing eye care infrastructure in the country with additional clinical care, educational exchanges and research. The focus this year will be to enhance the interface with an established ophthalmology practice in Siteki - a city near the Mozambique border. The program is an integrated component of the DMEI Global Fellowship Program with outreach into West China, Africa and South America as well as local program to underserved populations in Oklahoma.

Our route is Oklahoma City to Atlanta to Johannesburg to Capetown. A few hours to spend in a Delta 777 Seat 31C. I hear they have power outlets! 😊
