Last night we set our clocks for 5am and asked each other if we thought we would actually sleep long enough to be awakened by the alarm. At 4:59 am we rolled over and laughed about the fact that we were both already awake! Yup, we have both been looking forward to departing on this trip for past year and are happy to finally be on the road. We started at 6am with a nice cup of Dunkin' Doughnuts coffee. We headed Northeast and arrived at Aaron's sister's place around 11:30. We spent the next 2.5 hours playing with our nieces and visiting with Lara and Eric. Aaron's mom had sent a bag of goodies for the girls who were most appreciative of their new stuffed animals. Thanks to a the deli spread Lara put out, ... read more

It’s been awhile since the last update but we have been living in civilization quite normally which isn’t as bloggable as the rest of the summer has been. I am not sure that anyone cares as much as we are taking regular showers, eating at tables in kitchens, and shopping in places that actually have stuff. In fact, it has been two weeks of semi normal living (if you count the frequent trips out to the RV to get something we need that we forgot to bring in). We started this stretch in Columbus Ohio visiting with my cousin and her family (3 kids and one spouse who spent the week playing in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas). I also have another cousin (2 kids and a spouse who was not at the ... read more

Well everyone, i have been home for about 1 week now, and i realized i should probably update to tell you I am home safe! It's very wierd to be updating this from my computer rather than from a small internet cafe where i have to keep checking over my shoulder. It's also weird to hear english speakers everywhere. The trip was amazing, and for all my supporters, you will soon be getting a letter/invitation. There were many times on this trip when i was reminded of all of your faithfulness and willingness to support me, and several defining moments where i could literally feel your prayers strengthening me from across the globe, so thank you , all of you! What a great experience this has been, and needless to say i am excited to find ... read more

Columbus, Ohio Airport Hotel Everything I remember of Columbus, OH is gentle rainy days and drinking vegan coffee with my wife at our Port Columbus International Airport hotel room. It was several years ago and we were in Columbus looking for a home with hopes of moving there. Most of the days were rained out, and little property that we really liked. The rain gave us very little things to do in Columbus, Ohio, but we didn’t mind. The rain was comforting and the week before at work was highly stressful. My mind just went into relax mode and everything felt so calm. The Columbus Convention Cente... read more

Well, we arrived back home physically last Monday night at about 10:00 pm and are waiting to catch up mentally. We had a few hectic days but a nice Thanksgiving with Glenn at home. Our refrigerator died while we were gone and it was a challenge to get one delivered by Wednesday afternoon so we could go shopping and actually have some food inthe house. Our whole trip was wonderful. Last Saturday, we were on an hour's bush walk up in the foothills above Auckland called the Waitakere's. Chrissy did so well. We weren't walking quickly, but she was able to go the whole way. Our friend, Anne, took us and Chrissy did something that reminded her of when we were there and Anne just got all teary-eyed to think we were together again. Last Sunday, ... read more

Saturday, 10 September 2005 The Chillicothe Inn Chillicothe, Ohio Day One of the “Mother of All Trips:”—we are heading for the West Coast, and all sorts of places in between! The last time we were visiting Lara in Seattle, about two years ago or so, I commented to Janet that the next time we visited her, we should drive out, (since I would be retired,) and take a few weeks and see some things along the way. Mount Rushmore, for instance. Well, she started suggesting things, like seeing Jim and Launa Myers in northern California, and seeing the Grand Canyon. Well, she doesn’t really understand what she’s suggesting, but I agreed to it because I’d like to do it myself! But I told her, “This will be about two months! Not two weeks!” But she said, ... read more
