The wait to travel is driving me crazy. Our love for Aislinn Kai Xin is growing everyday. We have never met her and yet we miss her. It is easier to deal with when there is paperwork to complete. But in between the paperwork is a void and it is difficult to sit idle. For me, the lull is the perfect time to begin to prepare for her "welcome home." We have three boys and four bedrooms. One bedroom is quite large, so our two older boys share a room and the fourth room is a play/tv room. This will be converted to her room. I began that process today. All of our ten thousand board games we pulled out of the closet and placed on a bookshelf in the basement. The wardrobe of halloween costume, ... read more

Well, I often like to do things out of order. I am a non-sequitur kind of guy. So I am posting my second blog entry and pre-dating it to make it look like my first. All of this so I do not have to speak in past tense. Yea! We have been matched. CCAI notified us that they had a match for us. She is absolutely beautiful. Her given name is Kai Xin, which means "delighted." We plan on calling her Aislinn, which means "dream." She is our happy dream. She was born with a cleft lip and palate. Her lip has been repaired. We will get her palate repaired when she gets home. "When she gets home;" it makes it sound like she is just away for a few days and will be back soon. ... read more

Today is Thursday, August 26, 2010. I have been in Ohio for exactly one week. At six am on Thursday, August 19, 2010 my friend, Kay, and I hit the road for a ten hour ride to Ohio. we were going there to visit her mom. Kay is a close friend of mine who asked me to go with her on her eight day vacation. So, we traveled through Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and finally arrived in Ohio. we hit little traffic and there ride was beautiful; there were clear, blue, sunny skies with wonderful scenery. Thursday night we went to this Japanese steak house which was really neat and delicious! I snapped a picture of the chef making an onion volcano; it blew fire! On Thursday night we also set up the camping tent as ... read more

Straight from Josh's house I went to visit another group of 2p2ers (i.e. members of the twoplustwo forum) in Columbus. I only actually stayed in Columbus for 1 night, and then we went on a 3 day trip to Andy's lakehouse on Lake Tappan, a couple of hours east of Columbus. The trip was really fun, the weather was awesome so we just chilled in the sun with beers and went swimming in the lake (which, due to it's shallowness, was really warm. I don't just mean warm as in not that cold, it actually felt warm on your skin when you got in) whenever we wanted. We also went out on his boat a few times, where I tried tubing - which is incredible. You basically sit in an inflatable donut-shaped ring, attached to the ... read more

Hi. This is Ryan. When we got to Indiana, we knew we got there because it smelled so bad. The we went to Purdue University in West Lafayette. We played basketball at Mackey Arena. It was very fun, especially when we got a ball to play with! Then we left for Ohio State. I was very excited. We got to the football stadium, but it was closed. I got an Ohio State hat. Today was a very good first day. Hey, it's Karyn again. I'll bet all my Purdue friends will be jealous...I played hoops on the court of the Mackey arena! Actually, we were pretending to shoot hoops at the Mackey arena...until a cleaner there tossed us a ball! The security was much tighter at the fields in Ohio, however, and we weren't able to ... read more

Greetings All: My trip back home was a bit of a shocker. The noises I had grown accustomed to were no longer there, so no beeping, unneccessary screaming, spitting, hacking and splashing of mop water. I must admit, though those sounds are at times unsettling, I find a strange comfort in the chaos and find uninterrupted silence a bit sad and lonely. The first five days were spent with me desperately trying to get my sleeping pattern back to U.S time. Then I kicked back, didn't do anything, or see anyone I was suppose to, and instead, I watched good old American trash T.V and read a lot of books. I've really missed using my ability of comprehension and pretty much drowned myself in English related materials. My sister had her twins! A boy and a ... read more

Ohio really knows how to re-affirm my decision to get out of the midwest for the winter and head to the tropics of SE Asia!! Shovelling over a foot of snow is a little less of a pain in the butt when I realize the only thing I'll be shoveling next week is sand into a nice mound to rest my head on a beach in Bali. So here is the rough itinerary for the first month of my trip: 2/15/10 depart Columbus Ohio 9am 2/17/10 arrive in Denpasar, Bali just after 12am 2/17-3/2 Bali 3/2 depart Denpasar, arrive Jakarta, Indonesia (for a quick overnight layover) 3/3 depart Jakarta, arrive in Saigon, Vietnam (aka HoChiMinh City) 3/3-3/7 Saigon, Vietnam 3/8 train ride from Saigon to Danang, Vietnam 3/8-3/11 Danang, Vietnam 3/12 depart Danang, fly to Hanoi ... read more

Intensive Planning Over We are finally all set to go on the trip, it was a far more laborious process than I would have liked. Last Minute Planning Begins Now we scurry around for those things we may have missed. My only complaint is how bulky all of our camera and video equipment is, but then that is the point. My Sony that Pat gifted me 5+ years ago still takes amazing pictures, especially when mated to the lens adapter from Sony. But I am betting nothing will beat the Nikon D80 for good pictures of wildlife. Our goals remain as follows: 5 Countries in 3 Weeks: *South Africa *Swaziland *Zambia *Zimbabwe *Namibia Must Sees: *Kruger NP - Seek the 'Big 5' in Famed Game Park *Victoria Falls - One of Seven Natural Wonders, twice as ... read more

We leave Columbus tomorrow at 2PM and arrive in Phoenix at 3:15PM. We then have about a 2 hour drive from the airport to Sedona. Well, not actually Sedona...I guess I should say the "Sedona area"....our resort is in Cornville which is about 20-30 minutes southwest from Sedona. It looks like we should have good weather for the week - 80's through Sunday and then mid to high 70's the rest of the week. Right now in Columbus (at 10AM) it is 39 and raining so anything will be better than this! The first item on our itinerary is a hot air balloon ride with Red Rock Balloons on Saturday morning. We will learn our pickup time on Friday but it will be before sunrise. We thought we would do this on our first day since ... read more

We woke up nice and early in Philly, to finish a little packing before heading to get the truck. Getting the truck turned out to be pretty easy, a 16' Penske is our chariot across the country (along with our car towed behind it)...so far, it's not the best thing, but it's an awesome adventure. A bunch of our friends came to help us load all our ridiculous amount of stuff up into the back of the truck, parked on the curb on Spruce until some cop decided to tell us we couldn't park there (even though people do all the time for hours at a time), and then across the street in a loading zone. So a HUGE thanks to all of our friends for carrying our stuff down four flights of stairs and across ... read more
