Late start today and I meant to have a bit of a sleep in, but I got up early around 6.00am to start the travel blog writing and get the first blog published. Kerry & I went downstairs to the breakfast provided on the mezzanine level. It was basic food fair and barely OK. It had been raining all morning so we took our time getting ready and headed out about 12.00pm as the rain had now stopped.
First stop was the lobby to get 3 drinks vouchers for the evening hotel provided drinks and supper session which we enjoyed last night on our arrival. We had a couple of glasses of wine and heaps of cheese and crackers. We then had a quick look in 5
th street arcades across from our hotel looking for souvenirs and then we were off to the tourist centre which is only about 200 metres from our hotel.
We had a really helpful lady to give us an idea where to go and what to do. She suggested we go to the food truck stalls on Walnut Avenue, and then off to the Money Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank building. We followed her
instructions and there was about 20 food trucks serving different types of food. We decided on some mini doughnuts and they were so freshly made and delicious.Next stop was the Federal Reserve Building where they had a free money museum. This was pretty cool, and the building inside was amazing such grandeur in fittings.
We then got some photos in the Mall area where they built so many amazing buildings to beautify the area back in the day and then we headed down East 9th Street to Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame Museum where we saw Johnny Cash’s tour bus parked out front. We had lunch here at a food truck serving chicken sandwiches, although we would call it a chicken burger, one had fries and one with kettle chips! We then had a coffee and inside the building we went.
The lower level was full of artefacts and memorabilia, amazing stuff really, then we went upstairs and I was chatting to this guy who was working there and he was telling me how they had a John Mellencamp section for 12 months which only just closed (we had heard about that and I was quite disappointed
as that would have been awesome). He then told me of the story about a year ago where Mellencamp came to visit the Hall Of Fame Museum as he was in town, and when he arrived he asked if he could borrow some guitars from their collection and then he arranged for his band to come down a play 6 songs out on the front stage for free. He said he was such a down to earth guy.
I learned something interesting about the famous Beatles song Hey Jude which was originally titled Hey Julian. The museum was amazing and so well done. It had 6 levels and lots of interactive things like voting for the next Hall Of Fame nominees (I voted for Midnight Oil and increased their vote tally from zero to 1!). Based on the fan vote Stevie Nicks will be inducted next year. This years inductees included Bon Jovi, Dire Straits and The Cars. There was a section about one hit wonders where I heard a song I had not heard for many years called "Season In The Sun" by Terry Jack.
We left around 7 pm and the sun was now out, so
we walked back to the main public square took a few more photos and then headed back to E4th St for dinner this time at Mabels BBQ. I had a half rack of Pork ribs and Kerry and Elise shares some Lamb Ribs, There was even room for a Great Lakes Brewing Company Dortmnunder Gold which was nice and Elise had the Chocolate pudding and Kerry & I shared a Key Lime Pudding which was awesome. Only cost us $55.08 plus tips which was really good value.
Back in the room around 9pm. It has been nice here in Cleveland, a nice clean city and amazing there is no traffic or cars honking etc. Tomorrow we hit the road again heading South East.
