So yesterday I went for the first weekend in ages. Although it's not out of my home range or anything like that, it IS a different experience. So here's my day. The Great Lakes Medieval Faire. It's a roaring good time for all and much love is to be had there. If you've never been and have the opportunity to go to ANY Medieval/Renaissance Faire, GO. Don't ask, just get a costume and go. Even if your faire is far away. Mine is an hour and a half drive. I still go. Now, I am an old hand at this particular faire, since I've worked there for years (not the past 2) since I was 15. I've done cast, vending and fencing show. It's lots of fun when you have a job there if you're doing ... read more

Tomorrow even though I really don't like going to them, I am somehow going to a convention. I'll take lots of pictures then and put them up, and maybe next week I'll do a nostalgia entry for Denison. That way my darling Sarah can have the pictures I have from it. So, consider this a promise for pictures and entries later.... read more

Well, I got this so that you all can keep track of my fantabulous photos while I'm Japan, and go through the horrible process of getting ready to leave with me. I'm really stressing out about getting my ticket for the flight. I keep worrying the one I want won't be there when we can actually shell out the $2100 for it. I had expected it to be expensive, but still. Fortunately, the embassy in MI is really nice and they're making my visa application quite simple and they waived my appearance. I have to do a photo project while I'm in Japan focusing on one aspect of my stay. Suggestions are welcome.... read more

As I write we are mere miles away from the beautiful and sunny coast.... of the Cuyahoga. You got it, we're rocking "the Cleve" (as I've decided to call it) or "The Mistake on the Lake", as Candace, our first commenter, so kindly pointed out. I'll start out by thanking those of you who joined us at Solstice the night before we left, you were a small but rambunctious crowd and it was nice of you to see us off in case we come back any worse for the wear. And a side mention to the Twisted Spoke Breakfast Group that couldn’t make it that night, but saw us off a little earlier. Our voyage from Chicago started off normal enough with Elise driving the first leg of the trip since mornings and I have never ... read more

Nearly There *If this is your first time to our blog, please checkout the first enrty by clicking "pervious enetry" on the navigation controls above* The time for our departure is approaching more quickly than we anticipated! Everything has been moving along for us in our preparations. Our bags are packed and we can't wait to get going! We decided to add this journal entry as a kind of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) entry. What do you pack on a year long trip around the world? Well, not that much really. We have to pack light since we are going to carry everything on board the plane. Most people carry on extra overnight bag on board; we are going to bring everything for a year in a carry on size backpack! You could really travel with ... read more

A Nomadic Manifesto Finally it is time to get moving again! This is the first entry is what I hope will be a constant journal of our travels. This journey is far from a vacation for us. We are not headed to sunny beaches and palm covered resorts (though we may find a few from time to time). We are going on this journey to walk through the hot crowed streets and of India and feel our bones jostled on the dilapidated dirt roads of Tanzania. We are not seeking out a romantic notion of "seeing the world". At times there will be nothing to see but barren landscape and worn villages. The food will be basic to say the least and our lodging will often be simple cots surrounded by damp concrete walls. In the ... read more

Any reason to travel is a good reason, but when you're picking up a 2001 model Corvette with 5.7 litres of V8 goodness under the bonnet, you know you're travelling for the RIGHT reasons. And so it was that my buddy Kevin and I travelled from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Detroit, Michigan to pick up his new pride and joy. We were scheduled to leave Ft Lauderdale at 7:30pm, having made it to the airport only 30 minutes prior. After checking in with our minimal carry on luggage, we quickly hauled arse towards terminal 4 and the start of our journey. As has been a customary tradition of mine, we sought out the nearest bar and downed a few beers prior to the flight. After all, a flight without a few thirst quenching ales is not ... read more
