America is a funny place with two pretty huge obsessions - one is TV and the other is health. Today I went to two different doctors to get "regular check-ups" something that especially my family gets done a lot, just in case. Afterwards I bought a pack of pills, two creams, and floss. It used to kind of be a joke in our household that everything caused cancer, cause that's what everything seemed to talk about. You eat the wrong foods, use the wrong kind of computer, do whatever, you've ultimately got cancer. Although the truth is the only thing that means is that they have no idea what causes cancer. Unlike the Chinese and other Asians who never go to any kind of doctor unless they're in pain and don't try and take any sort ... read more

I work in the very beautiful town of Chapel Hill, located midway between Duke University and University of North Carolina,Chapel Hill. The place is a vibrant mix of Ivy league students and Corporate crowd.I work with Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance, that has 6 offices in Chapel Hill.Probably Chapel Hill is a near ideal location that offers you a relaxed life, best places to study, large corporate offices like IBM and Cisco, lotsa excellent eateries and most of all a mild climate the year round. The people, the Southeners, are very warm and kind. They are courteous and friendly too.I love working with the people here and so far each person has been nice to me and very welcoming and more so,the ladies here complete their phrase with a 'hun !' that makes you feel special. Well, I just spent the day traveling from Boston to here. What a day! Last night I got about ... three hours of sleep and then got up at 5:30am to pack. For whatever reason I was awake but my stomach was feeling VERY strange. I thought maybe I would get to see one of my friends again before I left but unfortunately he wasn't able to see me. After leaving a little late for the airport (the first sign of a bad day) I had to drop off some Blockbuster movies and get some money from the ATM before I was dropped off (by the taxi) at the terminal. And before I discovered that it was the wrong terminal. For whatever reason US Airways and United Airways are in two completely different terminals at Boston ... read more

Today we head out from Chapel Hill, North Carolina for our final US destination, Atlanta, Georgia. We are staying with Rawley, my fourth-year roomate and sometimes friend from UVA. He's here drinking up a bit of the Chapel Hill social scene and also some GIS kool-aid as part of his masters studies in urban planning. Yesterday we drove from Washington, DC through Charlottesville, VA to Chapel Hill, NC on semi-back roads, only traveling about 45 miles of interstate along the way. In Charlottesville we walked around the UVA campus, ehm grounds, with a focus on the Rotunda and the so-called 'Central Grounds' (see photos). The Rotunda is based on Pantheon in Rome. What can I say, I have a thing for oculii. We also squeezed in a side trip the old SAM fraternity house and an ... read more

Alright, so I didn’t bike to Chapel Hill. When my girlfriend Jennifer unexpectedly came into town for the weekend, I changed my plans and decided to load my bike on the back of her car and hitch a ride for the fifteen miles from Durham to Chapel Hill. Even after a day of rest my knees and thighs were still killing me, so I figured another day off of the bike couldn’t hurt, especially with the mountains of North Carolina looming ahead of me on my way up to Asheville. We arrived at the Chapel Hill Meeting in tome for their weekly forum, at which I had been asked to speak about what had led me to make my bike trip. I found myself speaking to twenty or so Friends, and I knew going in that ... read more
