Another very cold sunny day. Unfortunately, our eldest daughter succumbed to her cold and elected to spend the day resting in the hotel, but the rest of us headed out into the sunshine to walk to Top Of The Rock.
The queues weren't very long and we were quickly up the at top staring open mouthed at the amazing view. We spent a good hour or two up there, despite the cold wind, taking photos from every angle.
After returning to ground level, we caught the subway to the stop closest to the Dakota Building on the edge of Central Park. Sadly, it was being renovated and was totally covered in scaffolding. We spent the next couple of hours walking the Park. We visited Strawberry Fields, Bethesda Terrace and the Belvedere Castle, again snapping photos along the way. We stopped for a late morning snack of a "New York hot dog" which left us all fairly unimpressed. It tasted no different to a cheap hot dog back here at home!
At this point we decided to separate – S and J all the younger ones off to Central Park Zoo leaving G and I alone, which was great as we
wanted to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the others didn't. We love zoos too but had one planned for when we were in Washington DC and there was no way I could miss the Met.
The hot dog had worn off by now, so we were lucky enough to snag a table at Loeb's Boathouse where we sipped wine and ate a delicious pork fillet and vegetables before walking again to the Met. Like all of the world's major museums, even though we spent quite a few hours there, we really only scratched the surface. Somewhere we can certainly return to if we revisit New York at any stage. The Met is a 'pay what you wish' museum with a recommended price of $25 USD. That seemed fairly ridiculous, since every other similar museum in both Australia and the UK are free. We paid from memory $20 for the two of us which seemed slightly more reasonable. I noticed at the ticket office that most people only chose to pay $5 to $10 each.
We then started the long walk back to our hotel down Fifth Avenue as dusk was starting to set in. We actually walked

As we walked past the famous Plaza Hotel, we couldn't resist the chance to pop into the Champagne Bar for a drink. The plan was to have a glass of champagne, but the price list soon reduced that to a champagne cocktail each! Still they made a delicious Bellini and we still loved every minute of our time there.
We met the rest of the family at the Happy Hour at the Hotel Elysee for predinner drinks, before another delicious Italian meal at La Gioconda.
