Cow Zing Sign
Okay now how many Cow zing signs do you think there are in the US? Down the road a little way there was a snowmobile zing sign. This is the 14th part of a series about my trip on my 2005 883 Low Harley Sportster ‘Effie’ from Kansas City to Nova Scotia and back. This was part of my vacation from 4 to 20 AUG 2006
Thursday 17 AUG
I wake this morning to Dan back out back again working on his wood project. Up and gone by 7AM, I am still a half day behind the plan, so I need to keep pushing. I really wanted to spend time at the PA rally, don’t want it to be mostly over by the time I get there. There is also a day ride I want to take in the surrounding area getting some IBE pts. As soon as I cross into the US I stop to get some gas and turn on the cell phone, it had been off the entire time I was in Canada. At the conclusion of my vacation I was supposed to stay in PA for some work issues that we have there. Messages told me that we had not yet secured parts so I needed to plan to come home. I was already a half day behind, now I have 1.5
more days of riding to do. So much for spending any time at all at the PA State HOG Rally. I’m not going to have anytime to stop other than for my ABC picture then I need to leave for home. The silver coating to this dark cloud is that I will be home for my HOGs group Razor Back Run. The run is a 4 day group ride over Labor Day weekend, from KC into AR and back, making a big loop. I had wanted to go, but the work in PA had knocked it off my schedule, now it was back in my schedule. Later in the day I called and reserved my rooms at the hotels the group was planning to stay at. I also called CHDS my preferred HD dealership and tell them I am coming home and ask them to schedule Effie in as she needs a new rear tire, oil change, 50K service and the rocker gasket leak is worse so its time to deal with it (warranty issue).
I stopped for lunch at this really neat restaurant in VT called the Cajun Snack Bar. It was in the middle of nowhere. I
Cajun Snack Bar
This was a surprise sitting along the highway with no town in site. Great food, great service. don’t know where the people would come from to support this establishment. My lunch was the Bayou Burrito. Needless to say they specialized in Cajun food and it was pretty good.
The weather today is great, it makes up for all the muck I have traveled in for several days. I am thoroughly enjoying my ride through upper VT, NY and into PA. The PA HOG State Rally is in York, PA. This will work great, the ABC’s gives a point for each of 6 Harley Davidson factories, this is the last factory I need to get all 6 points.
Evening found me traveling on 88 diverted which was diverted to Hwy 7 because of a collapse in the main road caused by a large June rain that had flooded so much of this area. 2 truckers died as their trucks crashed into the pit created by the collapse. Riding along I noticed a motel that looked down home and comfy, my first impression was right. The Country Inn - $60.50 for the night. The owners were very pleasant and caring. They get most of their business from the chain hotels sending their over flow to them. The

The next few pictures are some views I found on my way from VT to PA man was one of the Marines that landed on Okinawa during WWII. Now that was a tough group of guys. He was wounded and will be attending the Purple Heart Memorial dedication on 10 NOV 06. This is the cliff notes of the 45 minutes we talked. Very sweet lady. They were trying to recover from the flood too. It had flooded the basement of their home and the back half of the motel.
