Inquiring minds want to know! Actually, in our last blog I told you I would let you know where we ended up parking our wheeled house for the summer. It was a tough decision….NOT! Lulu felt like a lost soul. She has to remember “Our Home is Where We Park It!”
As I mentioned previously, we went back to Trout Run Camp Resort to confirm our site and reservation for 2 months. It’s located just about 8 miles down the road from our polebarn. Remember their sites were atrocious?! One site was located next to a buzz-saw man who is constantly making his wooden creations from tree trunks……Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…24/7. And if that wasn’t enough…..the site was right next to the dump station…..nice! It was also located under a huge, dead, pine tree with low hanging dead branches. Trillions of old dead pine needles plus, God only know what else, flooded the ground of this horrible site. The owner showed us the next site. Hah! It backed up to the public bathhouse/toilets. Where’s the hookups? The septic was 1/2 mile one way while the electric was a 1/2 mile the other. It wasn’t even a site!! Give us a break! This isn’t
our first camping trip!! The original site that Cory had picked out for us (in July, 2020) got booked on top of ours….too bad for us! We smell a rat! The owner said he was going to get us a real nice site and get back to us….not to worry! He never got back to us! They sent us an email stating it was time to check in…..to where? The absurd sites! We don’t think so. Cory responded to the email by saying “thanks but, no thanks” and give me my refund. When we didn’t show up on June 1st, a girl called us and wanted to know where we were. Cory explained the situation. He told her he had stopped several times in person to inform them we weren’t coming. “Oh” she said. She’d refund his minimal deposit. This campground caters to the weekend warriors and it is packed every weekend! It is not a 55 or over resort……it looks like a mob scene when you drive past. I think we made the right decision. We are happy for the owner that his campground is so successful.
So where are we? We are at Camp Shongo. That’s right!
We are right where we landed upon returning from Florida. We are parked next to our polebarn where we had made a gravel pad and utility hookups. We are very happy here. It doesn’t bother us to watch a new life going on in our old house. They have kept it up nicely…..which takes a lot of work. We aren’t missing that at all. Cory has a good system worked out for our water supply. Gunga Guenter is my hero! But we were missing two major items! Big time items: WiFi and TV. Gunga and I were starting to show withdrawal symptoms. Not pretty. Lulu was out of her mind! Her lips quivered constantly. We received the satellite dome that goes on the roof of our RV. Cory knew it wouldn’t work where we are parked…..the polebarn is in the way! Darn polebarn! Not the easiest to move! But no problem, our satellite will be used for other times. Determined to keep us all happy and content, Cory called the Spectrum Cable Company. Hooray….they could hook us up to cable and the internet at our “summer residence”. Goody, Goody, Goody. Lulu’s lips stopped quivering. The cable guy arrived promptly. Yes….right
when he said he would…..no Seinfeld stuff here. Whoa……we have a problem, Houston. Nooooooooooo. The cable can’t go through the metal polebarn…..screws up the reception. Plan B: he runs the cable on top of the ground all around the polebarn and brings it to the wooden post Cory has constructed for the cable wire…..just like at Tropical Palms. A trencher is coming next week to bury the cable line. Yippee. Okay, now we are all hooked up to the wiring outside. Time to hook up the cable box inside the RV. Noooooooooooo! Another problem, Houston. This fellow worked so hard to make it work…..we could get a cable picture but no audio. He tried three boxes! Even with closed caption or us trying to read lips, the system was a no go. Rats! Now what? This guy was a genius. He ended up putting the Spectrum app on our smart TV’s and streamed the cable TV through the WiFi internet that he had installed. Amazing. It worked! Hallelujah! So now, Cory returned the cable box and changed our service to just streaming…..cheaper. Life is Good! We have perfect internet and “cable” TV…..the miracles of technology. Now we can return to
all our streaming series like Justified AND Young Sheldon! Whoopi! The cable guy said our problem is with our HDMI cable. We’ll worry about that once we return to TP. Art……Oh, Art! Where Art Thou, Art?
Cory is very content being next to his polebarn. He gets up every morning…..just like he’s going to work! We’ll, he is…..kind of. He is puttering around inside and outside the polebarn to his heart’s content. No rush to do anything. Just putter, putter, putter. The nesting robins in the polebarn’s overhang keep a close eye on him. Lulu even went out and rested in my chair while he was doing his thing…..puttering. I love being where we are. Of course we lived here for 46 years. We are used to the area. No concern of people running through our campsite! Lulu is glad to be back in her old stomping ground….if she could only stomp……you know her issue.
One of our favorite areas is the WAG trail. It is an old railroad bed (Wellsville, Addison, Galeton RR) that has been restored into a gorgeous hiking trail. It is just a couple backyards away from us in Shongo. The Genesee River follows
along the WAG. It’s one of a few rivers that flows from the south to the north, emptying into Lake Ontario (one of the Great Lakes). Now that I have new knees, I have no excuse to go back to hiking along this memorable pathway. I’ll carry Lulu in a backpack….again, you know why.
We have been thrilled to meet our two new great-grandsons: Luke & Henry. Both are definitely going to be prime contest winners in whatever baby contest they are put in. Cuteness galore!
Nothing special planned at this time. The usual doctor and dentist appointments fill most of our dance cards. We have enjoyed one chicken barbecue and look forward to many more.
We wish you all a wonderful summer!
