As you may know, we made it home to Shongo on May 20th. Our journey was smooth sailing the entire way….Hallelujah….Thank you, Jesus! Lulu rolled to the ground when we arrived. She kissed it like the Pope. We haven’t always been as thankful and grateful for our usual treks back home but this trip was Purr-fect. Perhaps the work we had done in Red Bay paid off.
Our big, white polebarn was waiting for us. Cory pulled our RV around it and onto our gravel pad we had made for it. It took a bit of maneuvering and “discussion” because he said my guidance was poor….right! He only scraped the side of our sewer cap once! But now we are settled in with the slides out, levelers down, electric on, sewer hooked up. I’ll explain our water system later in the blog. Lulu is watching our neighbors from her perch on the dash. We are home! Yippee Hooray! We are at 446 State Rt.19- South, Wellsville, NY 14895. Our polebarn has a mailbox, too. We have a place to call home.
We don’t have running water at the polebarn…..reminds me when I was young and lived on the old
farm with my grandparents and mother…but I digress. Our plan was to siphon water from a rain barrel into our fresh water holding tank in the RV. Only problem….it hasn’t rained! So Cory put our rain barrel in the back of his truck and went to our daughter, Lory’s, house (close by) and partially filled it by their hose. He was just like Gunga Din in hauling water. He also bought a couple large, clear jugs of water at the grocery store. When we left the last campground on our way home, Gunga Cory had filled our holding tank with water so we weren’t dry as a bone and struggling by any means. As we have used the water in the RV, Gunga has refilled our tank with an innovative method. He put a hose and tube into the containers and made it all run in with his electric drill….don’t ask me how….it just works. Clever Cory…aka: Gunga Guenter. Now that he had that all figured out, a better idea has come along. Our friend from Canada, Mike, suggested a 50 gallon water bladder that’s sold on Amazon. Yes! Perfect! Better than the rain barrel….it folds up when not in
use. So Gunga ordered that plus an electric pump so he can put his drill away. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. We will be able to shower appropriately now! We’ve been taking them military style.
We have two big problems living here at the pole barn. No TV! No WiFi! Oh, help us one and all! We have no idea what’s going on in the world and worse than that, I missed the season finale of Young Sheldon. The agony is like having hot pins put in my eyes. Lulu can barely cope also. We both are a mess! I told you about our painted satellite dome which must be causing our no TV reception. Cory has ordered a new dome for us. I live in wait for its delivery. In the meantime, we exists as hermits……what is happening out there that we don’t know about? We are shut out from the world! Fortunately, our unlimited cellular data is providing us with internet use…..no WiFi but enough to use my IPad for communication, blogs and games. Whew! ???I will survive!???
We had a pleasant surprise once we pulled in to our Polebarn Place. Our son, Cory,
and Penny came down to greet us. Great to be with them again. We had been together at Rachael’s graduation….’member? It’s so good to be home with family once again. Even though we have water, I don’t want to use it all in my new washing machine. We gathered up our dirty clothes and headed off to Lory’s house. She let us use her machines….bless her heart. It was so good to see she, Jay and Sara. We hadn’t seen them since last September!
We had a wonderful family gathering in Honeoye Falls last Sunday. Our daughter, Kim, & Jim put on a going away party for their son, Travis (our grandson). He has taken a job in Dallas, Texas working for an environmental oil and gas company. We shall certainly miss seeing him for awhile. The party was in a lovely, local restaurant. We could order from the menu. It was super. The food was great! The fact that so many of us were together was even greater. Again, we hadn’t seen them since last September. And the pièce de résistance was meeting our new great grandson, Luke. What a cutie. And he was so good as we
played “pass the baby.” We are so blessed.
We have kept busy running here and there. Monday, we went to Hornell & Howard and “did the graves”. I remember, growing up, when my grandmother, mother and 2 aunts “did the graves”. They would dig up the entire top of every grave and plant live flowers all over it. Unbelievable! Now, we just put artificial flowers on them. Cory does clean the gravestones and weed whack around them. We found using “Wet and Forget” on the headstones works fabulously. Had very little cleaning to do. I held off putting flowers at our tombstone…..we don’t want folks to think we are there yet!! After this strenuous (not) activity, we went to the Ford dealership where Cory purchased his truck that he has been leasing for the past 3 years. The price of trucks have gone up recently so he figured his deal was a good one. He only gets to drive it when we are here in NY. Lucky to have it…. now that he’s hauling water. Gunga Drives! It’s also a good backup should one of our kids needs to borrow it for some reason.
We had to pack
up, close up our RV on Tuesday. Cory made a 7:00 AM appointment to get it inspected. Yes, a middle of the night appointment! I figured I would just stay in the bed throughout it but, because we go to bed so early (no TV), I was able to get up and make myself presentable. He takes our RV to a heavy truck repair place to get the inspection. It is located on top of a big hill on a narrow country road. Kind of like traveling around Red Bay. Remember, in NY, we have to get yearly inspections on all our vehicles. Because we left the RV in Florida last year, our inspection was way overdue…..by more than year. Fortunately we didn’t get stopped coming up here…..whew! While at this place, he ordered new tires for our RV and car. They love us here. I’m sure we’ll get a Christmas card from them! So, one of these days, we’ll pack up again and take our house to get new wheels under it. Plus the car! $$$$$$$
Yesterday, we stopped at a campground 7 miles from our polebarn campground, just outside of Wellsville. We have reservations to stay there
for June and July. Hopefully, we’ll get TV and Wifi there. The sites he showed us were atrocious! We said “No Way, Josè”! We were ready to just get our deposit back and stay at Camp Shongo. The owner said just to wait….he would do some shuffling around and get us a nice site. We shall see. Fortunately, Gunga Guenter has us all fixed up where we are if it doesn’t work out. No big deal. We are just happy to be in our RV. I’ll let you know where we end up.
That’s it folks! Our next road trip is back to Rochester to celebrate our youngest son, Tim’s, birthday. His birthday is this Saturday, the 29th. He’s not so young anymore (44)….where has the time gone? We are all going to meet at an Olive Garden….yippee. I love Olive Garden. Happy Birthday, Tim.
You can all settle in now, as we have, and start to enjoy this summer. I think it’s going to be a great one. Thanks for joining us on our long journey. It would seem so empty if you weren’t there. Lulu would be lost. She counts on you always being a part
of our escapades and excursions. There are 20 photos for you to review. See you again soon.
