Another glorious day at Watkins Glen, we go for a walk and get some supplies to go for a small hike up to the falls at Watkins Glen State Park , some of the homes we see along the way are magnificent, white weather boards with columns on the verandahs, with glorious planter pots with wonderful colours of white, yellow & lilacs! The beautiful oak trees are loosing there leaves and are on front lawns and footpaths, to feel these leaves crunching under our shoes reminds us of the Autumns in Melbourne when we were kids. We arrive at Watkins Glen State Park ready to catch the shuttle bus to take us up to the top so we can walk down to the bottom,but. "what's this, no shuttle bus today"! We have to walk up the falls trial and then back down, oh well here goes. As we make our way up the gorge, there are some wonderful sights of little waterfalls & little bridges are everywhere, we steadily climb up the gorge, its a pretty decent hike, we arrive at this beautiful waterfall! It is a sight to behold, the sound is deafening, the last part of the gorge has the biggest set of stairs I have seen yet, and yes we have to go up them, we arrive at a picnic area and have our lunch. Its so peaceful, little squirrels running around, scampering through the leafs, they are so cute! We now head back down the gorge, along the Indian trail, the walk back is just as amazing as the walk up. We head back to our room for a little down time before dinner. We have dinner across the road from the Motel overlooking the lake, what a great day, what a great town........ Weather........ cool!

Thoughts: This is a great place to stay,The Harbour hotel was recently built(as of this blogging day it does not appear on Google Earth) and has fantastic views of Seneca lake and the Harbour.The Turn Down Service is great,your out for a meal,return and the bed has been turn down with a mint awaiting and a Poem on a card....nice touch! Meals are pricey at the Harbour Hotel and next door does fantastic seafood at a lesser price.
Watkins Glen is well known for its racing track and on a big race weekend meet,it books out and pays to always book in advance here.

Watkins Glen State park
Watkins Glen State Park is the most famous of the Finger Lakes State Parks, with a reputation for leaving visitors spellbound. Within two miles, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course. The gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade. Rim trails overlook the gorge.
