Photo montage with views from our home base. Our restaurants this trip home included Carney's (Ballston Lake), Charlton Tavern (Charlton), Sabby's (Rutland), Log Jam (Lake George), Lake Ridge (Round Lake), and More Perreca's, Scotti's, Hot Harry's, Gershon's Deli and Aperitivo - all of these last four are in Schenectady, the undisputed KING City of taste & value for Capital Region Restaurants. We love them all!

Big fluffy flakes, blazing a path on a seldom used trail that circles back to the lake - are we ever lucky to have such resources out our back door!

This is one New Year's tradition that we skip; but bully for Jordan and Meghan!

Schenectady's restaurants are the best for taste and value. Scotti's on Upper Union St., Aperitivo on State St., and More Perreca's on North Jay Street count as favorites among many others!

We turned our picnic table into a winter feeding station. Fascinating to watch the little visitors.

Actually this isn't our sport, but others are pulling out pike like crazy. The lake is wonderful for winter recration - snowmobiles, motorcycles, X-C skiing, snowshoeing, walking, walking the dog, letting the dog pull a sled with kids it in, and it's even a landing strip for occasional small planes owned by residents. Very cool place to live.

These two are off to Rio and a cruise around Cape Horn to Santiago. Ever lovers of public transportation, the took the "Mega Bus" to NYC from the Albany Amtrak Station, trailed their bags to Penn Station, took a train to Kennedy Airport, and flew off for a non-stop 10 hour trip to Rio. And, they pack so as not to have to endure the rigors of check in - carry on only for weeks at a time.

Downtown Rutland, Vt has its share of good eating. We sat upstairs at Sabby's. Really good food. The boys had fun.

You enter through the health food co-op market, itself a treat for the senses, and enter an old theatre. Saturday morning winter market is really a nice experience if you are in Rutland during this time.

The best vestigial clue of the former life of this downtown Rutland building is the ceiling. It's unheated - all of the vendors have boots, gloves & coats on. Great produce, local gourmet and craft items (wooden ware, knitting, and beaded jewelry. Some great grazing - Korean kim chee, a French crepe maker with an amazing griddle, comfort food like chicken n biscuits & chile.

This man also had fantastic wooden "burl" bowles; some of which were hand painted. A fish motiff was especially handsome.

We've finally let our Christmas decorations go for the season...but it has been wonderful, especially as we look up, down and across the lake enjoying our neighbors lights!
