If only obtaining a travel visa was as easy as obtaining a Visa credit card, life would be much simpler. The credit card companies will basically stalk you, begging you to get one. The embassies, on the other hand, will make you jump through fire then be chased by venimous dinosaurs out to steal your limbs, just to enter the country. Am I frustrated? Beyond it. I JUST WANT TO STUDY ABROAD, Y'ALL! I feel my ulcer forming. Not really, that was more of an exaggeration. But I will say my butt is feeling a rather large pain right about now. Bah hum bug.... read more

It is officially September 1st, 2009, which means that I have 15 days before I leave for England. Two weeks, one day. I know that I will be fine once I settle in. I consider myself to be fairly independent, and I do a lot of things on my own. Heck, I have mastered going to the movie theater alone... on date night! So what's going to another country for 4 months? Nothing! Pissshhh. No, but seriously, I know things will be great. I am freakin' excited to share a house with 11 other people from around the world. My love for international students will be definitely satisfied. Am I excited for homework? Definitely not, but I am very curious about what classes will be like. Two major differences from my college: * There are about ... read more

OK, remember how I said, “I hope I didn’t forget anything!” (or something like that)? Well, I did… 3 things as a matter of fact. I will try to explain them in the most efficiently as possible since I just wrote that epic entry. * On the list of stuff that I learned/did, I forgot to include that TWICE I helped with cooking a meal for 15 people. I love cooking dinner, but never in my life have I had to cook for that large of a party. I’ve also never had to cook lamb or a big leg of pork. That was definitely a unique experience. Oh, and speaking of lamb, I just reminded myself of another thing (making it 4 things I forgot, instead of 3). * I had lamb for the first time, ... read more

Although this entry is immensely overdue, I am finally writing my concluding blog for the Ireland summer trip. As you might recall, the last real entry (not about the people) took place shortly after the Spanish guys arrived. I will try my best to pick up from that spot, so here goes. (By the way, if you haven’t read Part 1 of this, names might not make sense to you, so I would recommend you do that first. If you have, disregard this whole thing in parentheses.) The following weekend was quite eventful. On a Saturday, Anna and I spontaneously decided that we would try to go to Killarney for the evening and part of Sunday. Seeing as we sort of partied the night before, we woke up late in the day, so this decision was ... read more

I have so much to say, I have decided to break up my last entry into 2 parts. The first will be about the people I’ve met. The second will be about the things that I did with them. Here we go… Leades House Gang. I believe I left off in my previous entry how the Spanish boys had arrived. Did I mention that two Germans came soon after? Botho (pronounced boat-o) and Thomas. They are both 18 and completely different characters, but I enjoyed them both a lot. Botho is full of energy and loves the sound of Spanish words. He learned the word conejo (rabbit) and that became his favorite word that he incorporated into almost every sentence. It was quite unique I’d say. Thomas was a person I found to be unintentionally funny. ... read more

This will be my last time online for I don’t know how long (hopefully not too long!). In about 13 hours I will be taking my first plane on my trip to Ireland. It’s only from Rochester to JFK, but it’s still the first leg! I will be having two 5-hour layovers on my way to my destination. The first will be at JFK, and then another one once I get to Dublin. I am just now realizing that I will be waiting 5 hours in Dublin just to take a 50 minute flight to Cork. Traveling by train would actually take less time! Oh well, not being a Pessimistic Patty, but I would probably get lost if I did that, so plane is more than likely the best way to go. Once I arrive in ... read more

ROCHESTER Okay, so I made a pit stop on the East Cost on my way to Europe to visit some old friends, Molly & Melissa, in Rochester, NY. It was quite a change arriving in 40 degree weather versus the sweltering 90+ degree heat of Southern California. The air was cool and crisp, trees everywhere with their leaves shades of yellow and orange - Autumn had officially arrived. It was nice to get away from the busy fast-paced life of LA. The highways in Rochster are 2-lanes, and going 45 mph is considered "traffic". Houses with basements are common and big enough to build a family game room, and there are no wood fences separating neighbors. I was officially on the East Coast. You can immediately feel the history of Rochester with its Victorian style homes ... read more
