told you you were going to like it! We are loving it. A dream-come-true. Another item fulfilled on our bucket list. Where are we, you ask? We are at a cottage on Keuka Lake.....for two whole weeks. We arrived here on August 1st (hooray) and have to leave on August 15th ....Rats! We are relishing every moment of every day we are here. Keuka Lake is one of the Finger Lakes in New York State. At the lower end of the lake is Hammondsport, NY. A beautiful community with the Curtiss Wright museum and a wonderful classic boat museum/winery (that we toured a few years ago with my cousin, Paul and his wife Clare). Keuka Lake forks near the top....one end is Penn Yan, NY and the other end of the fork is Branchport....that’s the side we are on....we are close to Branchport.
Cory had been making piles of stuff for weeks for us to bring here to the lake. As I added more, he snorted. Fortunately, our daughter, Lory, was free and able to bring some of our stuff in her vehicle cause it all wouldn’t fit in our truck. We brought a lot.....only to find out the
cottage was well stocked and we probably didn’t need to bring so much. Cory snorted again. Sara, our granddaughter, came along with her mother. Thank God, we needed these extra hands getting everything down to the cottage. Did I say down? Yes....down, down, down. Down a thousand, winding, rickety, wooden steps situated along side a steep cliff. I’ve only gone back up them once since we got here. Fortunately, the owner has constructed a dumbwaiter so Sara operated that to bring most of the stuff down from road level to the cottage below. It went up and down a hundred times. Cory and Lory emptied both our vehicles which was a humongous job. Of course, “you-know-who” had to ride the dumbwaiter...she thought she was at an amusement park. Oh, the squeals and shrieks she made. I’m sure they were of pure joy. She’s a daredevil.
Thank, God, for Lory. She organized and put away all the kitchen stuff. She put the correct bedding in the two bedrooms. She put all the bathroom towels and supplies away. What a gift! I would have been half dead doing it all by myself. Poor Cory was!
After all this, we finally
got to relax next the beautiful lake. We are just feet from the water. When the waves come up...it sounds just like being on the cruise ship but even better. Sara found she could gather seaweed and flat stones for her pet turtle. We have to wear water shoes to go into the water....it’s stoney.
As we sat in awe of our location, we were happily surprised when our son, Cory, and Penny came by. They rode his motorcycle here, He is the one who actually lives the closest to where we are. Yesterday, it rained, so we took our clothes to his house to wash them and get our fix on watching more episodes of “Justified” on TV. Life is Good.
It was fun having all of them here to enjoy our new surroundings with us.
Today was the first day Cory and I got to swim in the water. It was wonderful. The water was actually somewhat warm. We loved it when the boats went by to give us some wave action as we floated around on our noodles. Ducks swam by and seagulls flew overhead.
Tomorrow, Jay & Lory and Kim & Jim
are coming over. That will be great. Cory is busy blowing up some floats and rafts....he has a machine so he doesn’t have to use his hot air. On the weekend, more of the family will be here and to stay over. Some are bringing their kayaks, one may be bringing a boat plus we are fairly close to a marina. We might just rent a pontoon boat. Fun at the lake! We have an extra bedroom room, a queen size inflatable bed, a twin size inflatable bed, a couch, two sleeping bags, two big chairs that can be shoved together, two lounge chairs....so we are good for how ever many want to stay over.
Now, I’ll take you on the tour.
Parking is up on the narrow road that follows the lake. As I already mentioned...you come down the thousand, old, wooden steps....or if you are a baby, you can ride down in the dumb waiter. Once down, you come right into the cottage and enter into the lovely, 1950’s kitchen. I say that because of the knotty pine cupboards. The air conditioner is a biggie. It freezes everyone on this level as well as the lower
level...brrrrrr. Cory loves it....me...no! On this level are two nice bedrooms with big closets. Our room as a window that looks right out at the lake....we feel that we are floating on the lake. So soothing to sleep by. There is a nice bathroom with a modern shower. Now....let’s go downstairs. Be careful! It’s tricky but you’ll get used to it. Just hold on. 🎼🎼All around the circular stairs we go🎼🎼.
Almost like a fireman’s exit but not a straight pole to go down. I say “phew” each time I make it down. Okay....now we are in the living area. A nice big room with soft carpeting. We figure we will do the inflatable beds down here....what a view they will have. Plus you can find your sleeping spot down here....anywhere. We get excellent cable network on the TV....I’m happy....I can watch Young Sheldon on Thursday night at 8:00 PM. Yeah! Off the upper part of the cottage is a weathered deck with an umbrella table and 4 chairs. Little lights decorate the wooden staircase railing at night. Keep your shoes on cause there is no grass...just dirt and gravel. Cory doesn’t have to worry about mowing that’s for
sure. He does have the task of watering the flowers though. Work, work, work. We set our chairs around the fire pit located to the side of the long, narrow dock. Now you can put on your water shoes and step right into the refreshing lake. It feels cool at first but once you are in, it’s actually warm. Lots of stones on the floor of the lake....that’s why you are wearing your shoes. Lifesavers! Especially if you have delicate feet like me. You can see the stones....the water is clear. There is some seaweed in the water that makes you move faster and further out into the lake....none can touch and tickle you here. It’s nice....very nice! So restful and relaxing.
Hope you like it here and will enjoy it as much as we are.
So, it’s time for me to go jump in the lake. Come along with me. Life is better at the Lake! 30 photos (2 pages) to check out after you dry off.
