What a great place and we learned a lot about Niagara Falls. First of all Niagara Falls is the city names, not the name of the falls. There is Niagara Falls, NY, USA. Then there is Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. On the US side there is the American and Bridal Veil Falls. On the Canadian side is Horseshoe Falls. Horseshoe is the largest falls, with American being next and Bridal Veil falls is the smallest. While the American side of the Niagara Falls we busy building up their factory industries, the Canadian side was building up tourism. You can tell by the difference in how each side looks and feels. I hope you enjoy the pictures. It was really hard to narrow down which ones I would put on the blog. I think I took over ... read more

Our next stop after Syracuse was Niagara Falls, New York. Val had been there but it was 40 years ago. Dale had never been there so we decided it was a great stop along the way. We stayed at a very nice R.V. park on Grand Island called Branches of Niagara. The park had a lake for canoeing or fishing and big spaces. We also found a very nice golf course on the island and had a beautiful afternoon on a new course. We spent 2 different days at Niagara Falls. The first day we walked in the parks and got a good idea of what we wanted to do to see the full view of the falls. The second day we took a trip on the Maid of the Mist. Dale really was surprised how ... read more

Fearing that Officer Boyd had marked our card and that his indolent appearance was actually masking an incisive, crime fighting, zero tolerance hunter, we decided to cross the county line and head straight to the Niagara area. We carefully selected our next campsite, which was undoubtedly my favourite of the whole trip. Four Mile Creek State Campsite is on Lake Ontario near the River Niagara inlet. Beautiful and green, with grass and trees but not too heavily wooded and spotless throughout. We had a pitch right on the edge and the view of the lake from the bedroom was fabulous. Next morning we headed for Niagara Falls, which turned out to be both amazing and an anti climax. The USA side is pretty tacky and the area around it reminded me a bit of the Purley ... read more

Before hitting the road for Niagara we visited the Top of the Rockerfeller Centre which gave us 360 degree views of NYC..it was absolutely breathtaking! We travelled to Niagara Falls, on both the American and Canadian sides, the Canadian Falls being far superior as the vantage points are better. The Falls cascade 54 meters and spill up to 154 million litres of water per minute depending on the season. It is indeed a spectacle to see. On our way to Niagara, we passed Elmira, where Mark Twain lived for part of his life and is buried. We found this quote that we'd like to leave you with " Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. ... read more

On the road just before 7am this morning. Toll price on the Ohio turnpike was $16.50 due to the height of the vehicle which was more than we expected. We drove through Cleveland and were back in the open road before 8am. Detour off the highway through the town of Geneva where we refilled with fuel at $3.23 per gallon and drove 7 miles through the town to Geneva State Park - beaches, camping, bike trails and boat mariner right on Lake Erie. Also saw a groundhog having something to eat by the lake. Very peaceful by the lake and it was another beautiful, perfect day. It is off season now but I'm sure this is a busy place for families during the summer. Geneva also has a number of Wineries in the local area - ... read more

Geo: 43.0955, -79.0559Last night we had been given a tip that we could park for free at the casino in Niagara, so this is where we headed to park the car. The American side of the falls was a National Park so we were able to gain information on the best places to visit and all within a beautiful setting. We set off on a walk along the river gorge which fed the American Falls, these were fierce rapids and not an area we would recommend to go white water rafting. This brought us to a bridge which straddled the river gorge and lead us to Goat Island.Once we were safely across to the other side we took a short trail which took us on a small bridge. This took us across to Luna Island which ... read more

Geo: 43.0955, -79.0559Today we spent a second day on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, and our first call was breakfast so we found a pancake house. Nicky opted for the sensible option of french toast and Simon opted for an all you can eat pancake and scrambled egg special - suffice to say Simon failed in his attempt to bankrupt them! With our stomachs full we walked through town in very hot weather until we reached the Skylon Tower. This was a very tall tower which offered panoramic views over Niagara and more importantly views of the American Falls and the Horseshoe Falls. This did not disappoint and you could see everything and as it was relatively quiet you had all the time you wanted to admire the spectecular views. We then ventured down to ... read more

Geo: 43.0955, -79.0559It was a beautiful, but windy morning when we woke up next to Lake Ontario on the US side. Sheila started out her birthday morning with a run and bike ride. We then visited Niagara Falls and then headed to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.... ... read more
