We went to do the Maid of the Mist boat tour today but discovered that it doesn't start until tomorrow so we just went out onto the observation deck to see the falls properly. The observation deck looks right over the US side of the falls and you can also see the Horseshoe falls of Canada from there. It's all quite impressive and there is a lot of ice down the bottom of the falls as well as ice bergs floating in the river. There are a lot of rocks down the bottom of the US side so no doubt you wouldn't be going over there in a barrel!
The crowds weren't too bad as it is the beginning of the season and there were plenty of vantage spots.
After viewing the US side we carried on over the bridge through the border checkpoint to the Canadian side. (You have to check your guns at the border). As everyone has been telling us (even the Americans!) the Canadian side was a bit more spectacular and had a long walkway around the perimeter of the falls for easy viewing.
we walked around most of the way and took photos of the falls and the lovely daffodils that were planted in beds in the nearby gardens.
There are casinos and hotels evrywhere although they were a lot less run down than some of the ones on the US side. I don't know how much of a honeymoon destination it would be now.
There's really not a lot to do here apart from look at the falls so the 2 days we have here are definitely enough.
We went into a large Canadian souvenir store and bought some maple syrup products to take back. The large bottles of maple syrup actually cost more there than they do at home.
